Best experience - Elizabeth was very attentive and went above and beyond. After the waterfall, she took us downtown Puerto Plata. We went to the pink street and the umbrella street, those things that were not part of the excursion. They waited for us to shop around. I highly recommend. They also went to a coffee, Tabasco, and rum tasting.

Awesome Experience - Went with my wife and 2 kids (10 and 13) and had a great time. Our tour guides were amazing and took great pictures. Franklin and Piro led us on a hike through the woods and down the waterfalls. They were funny and made sure we were safe. The hike itself was semi-strenuous, but they were sure to give plenty of resting spots and provided water. The waterfalls themselves were a blast. After the falls, we were provided a Domincan buffet, another water and a bottle of coke. We also visited a coffee and chocolate factory and got plenty of samples. Awesome trip overall and well worth the price.

Book with DSRR! But watch out for scammers (Freddy is his name, I think). - This was a very fun excursion that requires a bit of endurance and bravery. We were greeted right outside the port by Elizabeth and she was extremely charming and friendly. At one point in the excursion we had to either jump or slide down a 25 foot waterfall. For one reason or another, my waterproof phone case lanyard broke after the jump. My group, full of swimmers, offered to dive down to retrieve my phone (the area wasn’t that big) but, one of the guides that works for the waterfall refused to let us even try. He said that I’d have to pay $200 to get my phone back. I think his name is Freddy. I thought this was odd because someone else lost their shoe at the bottom of the waterfall but they got it back for him along with my phone without any payment. After paying them, I asked Elizabeth if the conversion from USD to Pesos was correct. She asked me what I bought for $200 and I explained what happened to her. She told her dad, Rosario (the owner), what happened and he immediately asked me to point out the person that scammed me. He said that they should retrieve your stuff for a tip but not a payment. It’s part of their job because I guess a lot of people drop their stuff in the waterfalls all the time. Safe to say the scammer got grilled by Rosario and I got my money back. So if you go on this excursion I recommend you report anything suspicious to your guide from DSRR. If I could, I’d rate their service and hospitality 11/10 because they were not going to let their customers get scammed. They all went out of their way to make sure everyone had the best time. I can honestly say that Rosario and Elizabeth along with everyone else from DSRR are good people.

Wonderful Excursion with the best Tour Guides ever! - Loved, loved, loved this excursion! Elizabeth, Ezekiel & Jose were just wonderful! We were picked up outside the port and they were right on time. We rode in an air-conditioned vehicle and were given water to take on the tour with us. Elizabeth was so good to give us fun details about Honduras and just generally delightful. The waterfalls are beautiful, and it was so fun to hike and go down waterslides and jump into the water. Ezekiel hiked up with us and took pictures all along the way. At the end of the hike, we were treated to a delicious authentic Honduran lunch - Muy Bueno! We would do this excursion again in a heartbeat!

Damajagua Falls trip from Amber Cove - Had a great trip to the falls with DSRR. Cost WAY less than the ship excursion (~$50/ea). Was easy to get to our bus. Walk through the tourist containment area and out into the tour parking area that everybody walks to. Then head out another 2 or 300 yards through the gate to the highway that runs past the cruise port. You can only go left or right. I vaguely remembered reading left in my instructions, so I headed that way and just told the first Taxi guys I ran into I was looking for DSRR and they all started yelling for that guy to come get us. They drove us the 45 min or so up to the falls, and one of the guys went with us to take pictures. I didn't really want the pictures, but the kid worked hard at it and was very pleasant. The falls were about a mile hike with a couple of steep hills. It was entertaining to watch the 2X year olds fall out whining while the 5X and 6X year olds walked around them. (Skip the buffet and find the gym Sweetie!!!) Don't be in a rush, the park puts you in groups and guides you through the falls, and there's a lot of folks, so chill out and enjoy the day. I really didn't care about going on this trip, but as it turned out, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Lilo, our driver didn't kill us, which is saying something on those roads. (He was safe and competent, and attentive to our requests.) Ezequiel, was very personable and worked so hard at the pictures, that I gladly paid him the $60 to download them all. (He was supposed to collect cash, but we eventually sent it via phone. And it was a heck of a lot cheaper than the ships pictures at $25 a pop!) After the falls, they took us to a chocolate/coffee stop that I really had no interest in. It wasn't much more than a lean-to in the middle of town, but the lady put on a nice discussion about the coffee and chocolate they grow and they sold packages for $15 and a bunch of carvings and kitsch that I didn't need (any more of!) I suspect that buying stuff at this location does more to help the local economy than anything else the cruise passengers do, so buy some coffee folks! Lilo and Ezequiel then ran us down to the port where we had plenty of time to not buy more junk at the shops. All told it took about 4 hours and was worth our time. A few notes: The ship tours tend to combine the falls with other items so they can charge 3x as much. If you chose one of those, check to see how many falls you get to do because we passed these tours on the way out. They were walking up the exit trail, and would only be able to do the bottom two falls. We went in May, and only the lower 7 were available. I understand that in late summer there are other falls higher that are accessible. You are sliding down rocks into pools cut by the water. The water swirls and shoves you around. Don't panic. You'd have to try REALLY hard to drown yourself, and the guides would get in trouble, so they aren't going to let that happen. But you may get swirled into the wall. My wife has a nice bruise on her shoulder. That's why they put you in life jackets and helmets. I suspect next time my wife will look for shoulder pads! Use a local tour! Leave your money with hard working locals instead of the ship and a tour company which is most likely NOT a small local group! Lilo brought water and sodas. Next time I'll call ahead and tell him to bring a six pack of local beer and pay him another $20 and call it a bargain! Lilo stayed with the van while we were at the falls so you could leave whatever you want there while you're getting wet. My girls all left their phones. Bring money for tips. The guides at the Falls will be politely waving to you as you exit, and your tour guides will also politely shake hands and wave as you exit. I should have brought more cash for these guys.
