Pasaje Histórico 5 de Mayo - We will explore around 1 km of tunnels. Our guide will explain their purpose and share the legends they hold. It is believed these tunnels might even reach the Ex-Penitentiary. It is also rumored that General Ignacio Zaragoza used these tunnels as a military base, as their design and route could have aided the mobility of the Army of the East during the Battle of May 5 against the French. The tunnel tour lasts about 30 minutes.
You will also tour the streets of Puebla on our “Tram of Legends.” This tour combines the Tram of Legends route with the history, legends, and traditions of Puebla, and reveals “The Secrets of Puebla.” This network of 18th-century underground tunnels and bridges has preserved about 350 years of secrets beneath Puebla’s Historic Center.
We begin by boarding the Tram of Legends at the Zócalo de Puebla. On this tour, you will travel through Puebla’s streets while we share the city’s history, traditions, and legends. We will pass through Callejón de los Sapos, the Convention Center, Paseo de San Francisco, and the Old Neighborhoods of Puebla: Analco, El Alto, and Xanenetla. At Xanenetla, known as “The Mural City” for its street art created by a collective to dignify the neighborhood, we will start the underground route. In some of its streets, we will enter the tunnels. Upon exiting, we will head to Mantaralla Park, right in front of the Loreto Fort where the battle against the French took place. You will enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city. At this point, we will reboard our tram to continue exploring Puebla: Zaragoza Road and its Mausoleum, Main Theater, Candy Street, and finally return to the base. - Parque Centro Cívico 5 de mayo (La Mantarraya) - The Tunnels or Passage May 5 cross the city and reach the famous Forts of Loreto, where the Battle of May 5, 1862, against the French army took place. From here, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Puebla and reboard the Tram. The exit leads to Parque la Mantarraya.
- Puebla Convention Center William O. Jenkins - A convention center that was once a textile factory.
- Callejon de los Sapos - An old neighborhood in Puebla where antique dealers, artisans, and various items gather.
- Barrio de Xanenetla - This old neighborhood features a collection of street murals that tell its story and idiosyncrasies, created by artists inspired by family stories. It is the entrance to the Secrets of Puebla.
- Zocalo de Puebla - The main square of Puebla, where the tour begins and ends.
- Puebla Cathedral - An iconic temple in Puebla. Construction began in 1575 under architect Francisco Becerra. Due to its size and complexity, work was interrupted several times and resumed by Bishop Juan de Palafox y Mendoza in 1640, finishing on April 18, 1645. However, the towers were completed two centuries later. Inside, you will find frescoes by great painters, a grand organ, choir, and altar.
- Teleferico - At this stop, you can opt for a ride on the Puebla Cable Car (ticket not included). From above, you can admire the entire city framed by volcanoes.
- Museo de la Evolución Puebla (Museum of Evolution Puebla) - At this stop, you can visit the Museum of Evolution, the Planetarium, and the Exhibitor Center. Enjoy a fun day with attractions for the whole family.
