- Templo de Santa Maria Tonantzintla - This is the epitome of folk Baroque. The temple dates back to the 16th century and “Tonantzintla” translates to “Place of our little mother.” In pre-Hispanic culture, Tonantzi refers to the corn goddess and is linked to the safeguarding of people. This temple is undoubtedly one of the most stunning and remarkable in Mexico, showcasing Mexican Baroque at its finest: adorned with corn and dark-skinned angels bearing indigenous features.
- Templo San Francisco Acatepec - The temple exhibits Mexican Baroque style. Between 1650 and 1750, it was embellished by Pueblan potters with Talavera Poblana mosaics, giving it a unique splendor in Mexico.
- Plaza de la Concordia - At this location, you can explore various attractions on your own. Starting with the Portal Guerrero, featuring over 46 semicircular arches that extend for 170 meters, it’s one of the longest of its kind on the continent. You can also visit the Ex Convent of San Gabriel, one of the oldest in the country, built on the ruins of the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. Inside, you’ll find frescoes dating back to 1533 and paintings depicting the life of Saint Francis of Assisi. Adjacent to the Ex Convent is the Royal Chapel, constructed in 1540 to indoctrinate the indigenous people, notable for its 49 domes. You can also explore the Casa del Caballero Aguila, which regularly features art exhibitions. Lastly, you’ll have free time to also visit the Cholula pyramid on your own (admission not included) and to savor the local cuisine.
