- Boccadoro aqueduct and bay - The observation of winged fauna has always been very popular among enthusiasts, but also a curious and educational way to bring children and young people closer to nature.
With this short walk, equipped with binoculars, we will discover the rich local fauna of the Ariscianne-Boccadoro wetland, a green oasis for many species of permanent and migratory birds, but also for amphibians, reptiles and mammals.
Such as moorhens, green frogs, little egrets, kingfishers, cattle egrets, kestrels, marsh harriers, buzzards, black-winged stilts, common stilts, ruddy turnstones, common sandpipers, the fox, the mullet, the bat, the rat snake, the cormorant and many others.
In a place where the reeds dominate, among which, fresh water meets salt water.
We will move around the nineteenth-century tank of Boccadoro, built to collect resurgence water and which was supposed to serve as a basin to serve drinking water to the city of Trani (BT).
Then on the dirt roads, flanked by tamarisk trees, which cross the marshes and cultivated fields of Ariscianne where the ancient Aveldìus river once flowed here, now followed by the Ciappetta-Cammaggio and Ariscianne canals.

Our journey takes us around the 19th-century Boccadoro tank, created to gather spring water, intended to supply potable water to the city of Trani (BT).
Subsequently, we traverse the dirt paths lined with tamarisks, that bisect the marshes and farmed lands of Ariscianne. Here, the ancient Aveldìus river used to flow, as depicted in the ‘segmentum VI’ of the Tabula Peutingeriana. This historic river, which began its course from the Murge, grazed the Andria village on its west before emptying into a sort of tiny port between Turenum (Trani) and Bardulà (Barletta).
Today, the Ciappetta-Cammaggio and Ariscianne canals mirror its path.
