Quilotoa Lake - Nestled within the crater of its namesake volcano, in the Chugchilán mountain range, this stunning lagoon is known for its highly mineralized waters that create an environment unsuitable for fish and bird life.
Our journey commences at the crack of dawn, as the destination lies nearly three hours from the capital. The drive promises a visual feast of breathtaking scenery leading up to our initial stop at the lagoon’s lookout point. Here, we embark on a 45-minute descent to the water’s edge, all the while taking in the majestic Andean landscape that cradles the lagoon. Upon reaching the shore, participants may opt to partake in a kayaking excursion.
After ample time spent at the lagoon, we will tackle the roughly two-hour ascent, exercising caution as we climb, before making our way back to Quito.

Our journey commences in the wee hours of the morning from Quito. Throughout the trip, we’ll be treated to the breathtaking vista of the Andes, where we will spot snow-clad peaks like Cotopaxi and Illinizas. As we reach Quilotoa, the captivating sight of the lagoon from the viewing point will leave us in awe. We’ll have plenty of time here to capture memories and soak in the beauty of the surroundings.
Next, we’ll start our downhill journey to the lagoon, a journey that will take around 40 minutes. Once there, we’ll explore the shoreline and partake in aquatic activities like canoeing. After all these adventures, we’ll begin our two-hour ascent, pacing ourselves according to each individual’s physical ability, until we return to the starting point.
Finally, we’ll relish a mouth-watering traditional lunch before heading back to Quito.
