Inside, the two main attractions are the historical frieze and the Cenotaph. The frieze is the largest marble frieze in the world, featuring 27 panels that illustrate the history of the Great Trek. The Cenotaph serves as the monument’s central focus. The Cenotaph wall is adorned with flags from various Voortrekker Republics and includes a tapestry wall depicting the Voortrekkers. The monument is encircled by a large laager of 64 ox wagons crafted from decorative granite.
- Kruger House Museum - This house was the residence of the Zuid Afrikaanse Republic President Paul Kruger. In July 1884, Paul Kruger and his family moved into the house, where they lived for fifteen years. The house was officially opened as a museum in 1934 and was declared a heritage site in 1936. Kruger House showcases a blend of styles: the cornice-molded gables, the molding on the front door, and the plastered moldings exhibit Late Renaissance influences, while the front and back porches display Asian influences. The long, broad front porch became renowned as a spot where the President would often sit and occasionally receive visitors. The museum comprises the original house, two display halls, and Paul Kruger’s State Railway Coach.

For international visitors, this iconic building is most memorable as the site where Nelson Mandela was inaugurated in 1994 as the first democratically elected President. It is a significant South African heritage site. Visitors are welcome to explore the terraced gardens that overlook the city. The impressive building is surrounded by beautiful terraced gardens that offer panoramic views of the city.
