It is the oldest Khmer market in the region and offers a unique glimpse into the local lifestyle.
• Kampong Phluk - Kampong Phluk is an excellent destination for tourists interested in exploring flooded mangrove trees, forests, and floating villages. The stunning Tonle Sap, the second-largest freshwater lake in the world, is a vital resource for the country, providing fish and protein to most of the Cambodian population. Visitors can explore the flooded forest and floating villages, witnessing a floating fishing village that adapts to the changing water levels throughout the year. A local guide will share insights into the daily lives and work of those living both on land and water. Along the journey, there will be opportunities to explore local villages on foot and engage with the community.
• Kampong Phluk Floating Village - The community primarily relies on fishing, especially shrimp, during Cambodia’s wet season. Many homes and structures are built on stilts, ranging from 6 to 9 meters, to adapt to the varying water levels between wet and dry seasons. In the dry season (November-April), as the river narrows, many residents turn to farming to supplement their income. Tourism, which began in the village about a decade ago, is also becoming an important part of the local economy.
