- Stary zidovsky Hrbitov - The Old Jewish Cemetery is one of the oldest existing Jewish burial sites globally and, along with the Old-New Synagogue, is a key landmark in Prague’s Jewish Town. National Geographic magazine ranks it among the top ten cemeteries to visit worldwide.
Established in the first half of the 15th century, the earliest tombstone dates to 1439, with the last burial occurring 348 years later. Despite several expansions over the centuries, the cemetery remained insufficient for the Jewish Town’s needs. Due to limited space, bodies were interred on top of each other, with graves stacked up to 10 layers deep.
The cemetery contains approximately 12,000 tombstones, many adorned with animal and plant motifs.
- Pinkas Synagogue, Jewish Museum in Prague - The Pinkas Synagogue is the second oldest preserved synagogue in Prague.
Constructed in the late Gothic style in 1535, it was founded by Aaron Meshulam Horowitz, a notable member of the Prague Jewish Community, and likely named after his grandson, Rabbi Pinkas Horowitz. Initially, it served as a prayer house for the Horowitz family and was situated near a ritual bath (mikveh). It was restored to its original form between 1950-54.
From 1955-60, the Pinkas Synagogue was transformed into a memorial for nearly 80,000 Jewish victims of the Shoah from the Bohemian lands. As one of the earliest memorials of its kind in Europe, it was created by painters Václav Boštík and Jiří John. Following the Soviet invasion in 1968, the memorial was closed to the public for over 20 years. It was fully reconstructed and reopened to the public in 1995 after the fall of the Communist regime.
- Maisel Synagogue - The Maisel Synagogue was constructed in 1592 under a privilege granted by Emperor Rudolf II. Its founder was Mordecai Maisel, the Mayor of Prague’s Jewish Town.
Built by Judah Tzoref de Herz and Josef Wahl, it was originally a Renaissance temple with three naves, which was unique for its time.
The synagogue was destroyed in the ghetto fire of 1689 and has been rebuilt several times. It achieved its current Neo-Gothic appearance under Prof. A Grotte between 1893-1905.
- The Old-New Synagogue - This is the oldest synagogue in Central Europe, dating back to the 14th century. It remains an active synagogue.
