• Óbidos - Leaving Lisbon behind, a rocky hill crowned with a castle suddenly appears on the horizon - this is Óbidos. A place rich in historical significance and heritage, known for its beauty and authenticity. It is a land with a history that predates the very foundation of the Kingdom of Portugal and was curiously given as a marriage dowry to several queens of Portugal.
• Óbidos Village - The medieval castle, dating back to the 12th century, is one of the town’s main attractions. Also from the 12th century, the church of Santa Maria, located in Óbidos’ main square, showcases stunning Manueline and Gothic architecture. Inside, admire the intricate decorations and historic artworks.
  The entire medieval town is encircled by well-preserved walls, offering excellent views of the surrounding countryside. Enjoy a pleasant walk along the ramparts and take in the landscape. The town’s narrow, cobbled streets are lined with charming whitewashed houses adorned with colorful flowers, creating a picturesque setting perfect for exploring on foot.
  The town is also renowned for its craft stores selling local handicrafts, ceramics, and souvenirs. It’s hard to resist picking up a memento here.
• Óbidos Village - (TASTING) Don’t miss the chance to taste Óbidos’ famous liqueur, Ginjinha, made from sour cherries and served in chocolate cups. Enjoy it, it’s on us.
• Alcobaça - Next is the town of Alcobaça. Here, take a guided and leisurely walk through the beautiful historic center, which, besides its heritage and authenticity, is also where two rivers meet, giving the town its name. Imagine this hidden spot of river union is called the Garden of Love. Curious to learn more?
• Alcobaça - As you stroll through the historic center, you’ll love capturing photos of the tiny bridges and local houses that emerge from the riverbanks.
  A few steps further, you’ll encounter the 12th-century Royal Abbey and the Monastery of Alcobaça, a UNESCO heritage site. Visit the impressive 900-year-old Gothic Abbey, where you’ll discover two intricately carved stone tombs, possibly the most beautiful you’ve ever seen, and learn about a poignant yet tragic love story. A definite must-see.
• Alcobaça - (TASTING) Visiting Alcobaça without trying the traditional and ancient pastries would be a real shame. You’ll taste the sweet “cornucópias,” a typical and award-winning pastry. Enjoy it, it’s on us.
• Monastery of Alcobaça - (OPTIONAL) If you wish, you may visit the Monastery of Alcobaça, a UNESCO heritage site.
• Alcobaça - (OPTIONAL) It’s lunchtime. Although not included in the tour program, time has been set aside for it. We’ll handle these details once you’ve booked the tour.
• Sítio de Nazaré - Head now to the picturesque seaside town of Nazaré. Stroll at the promontory, known as Sítio, where numerous must-see attractions await within walking distance. Among them, visit the stunning 110-meter-high Suberco viewpoint, the intriguing Chapel of the Miracle’s Memory and its cave, and the 14th-century Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazareth, the first sanctuary in Portugal, where you’ll discover something fascinating.
• Forte de São Miguel - (Entrance ticket is included) If you wish, we can walk to the 16th-century Fort, now a Surf Museum, perched on the cliff overlooking the Nazaré Canyon, where the legendary Giant Waves, reaching 30 meters (100 feet) high, occur. These are the largest surfable waves in the world. Did you know the Guinness World Record for the largest wave ever surfed has been broken here several times and is currently set at 26.21 meters (85.99 ft)?
• Praia da Nazaré - Don’t miss Nazaré’s golden sandy beach, where you’ll learn about local traditions. Enjoy meeting the Varinas, local women dressed in their seven colorful skirts. By the way, they can be quite cheeky!
• São Martinho do Porto - Continue along the coastline to the stunning shell-shaped bay of São Martinho do Porto and head down to the harbor to discover a fossilized curiosity millions of years old. Here, you might want to sample some fresh seafood and sparkling wine by the sea.
• Foz do Arelho Beach - (OPTIONAL) With the sea always in view, the trip continues to make one last stop, hopefully at sunset, at the beautiful Foz do Arelho beach, to enjoy the scenery, relax, and even put your feet up on the sand while having a drink or an ice cream right on the beach.
• Lagoa de Óbidos - After relaxation, set off towards Lisbon along the edge of Óbidos Lagoon, where you’ll see typical fishing boats, local shellfish gatherers, and possibly colonies of flamingos. It’s a beautiful route to end the journey, and it will be hard not to ask to stop the car to take the last photos.
• Lisbon District - Return to the Lisbon area. The journey takes between 11 and 13 hours, depending on the optional visits you choose and whether you decide to have lunch on site. For transparency, please note that in addition to the 5 hours allocated to the attractions listed in the itinerary, the remaining 6 to 8 hours refer to: 6 hours for total travel time, and 2 hours for optional activities.
