- Porto - Your expert guide will collect you from your hotel/accommodation or meeting point and will drive you to the renown Douro region. Half Way through the drive to the Douro Region we will do a short stop for a coffee break. - The Douro Valley - Welcome to the Douro Region, famous for it’s valley, Unesco World Heritage site, the oldest demarked wine region with unique landscapes of vineyards and the magical Douro river giving you the perfect background for a day of amazing wine tastings. - Sabrosa - Arriving in Sabrosa we will do our first visit of the day. We will discover the first of two wineries where you learn about the wine production and history of Douro Region, and its wines. You will have the oportunity to taste different wines before the lunch. A complete lunch will be served by the end of the visit: a full traditional portuguese meal with entrance, main dish, dessert, pairing with Douro red or white wine. - Pinhao - It’s now time to sail! Enjoy a 50 minutes scenic cruise on the Douro river departing from Pinhão on board of a traditional Rebelo boat. - N222 - National Road 222: drive through the most beautiful road in the world Did you know that one of the most beautiful roads in the world is Portuguese? We talk about the Estrada Nacional 222, which takes you to discover the incredible Douro wine region. On our tour will pass on this amazing road and point out the most scenic views. - Folgosa - Our wine tour is not over yet! There is time to visit one more renown Winery. The winery expert guide will walk you through the estate ,explaining the process from the vinyard to the bottle ending with a magnificent tasting of three different types of wines.

Immerse yourself in viticulture with a comprehensive day-long journey through the Douro Valley. This outstanding tour allows you to explore two of the region’s top wineries, absorbing the ambiance of this key wine region. Enjoy the chance to gather insights about the history of the vineyards and witness the end-to-end wine production process, all in the founding site of Porto Wine. Experience the ‘birthplace’ of this singular nectar! As you traverse the tour, savor six wine tastings against the backdrop of amazing landscapes and tranquil vistas of the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. A total-package deal is inclusive of guided tours to 2 unique wineries with tastings, a full traditional meal paired with Douro wines, and a scenic 50-minute cruise along the Douro River.
- Tours run in small groups up to 27 people
- Usually our tours run in one language but there are cases of one extras language or more.
- Duration: the hours of duration are approximate 10 hours. Please kindly be aware that the overall duration of the activity could be influenced by traffic conditions. An adventure in a day in the Douro Valley - Diego and Augusto were the very best I could have imagined. A very pleasurable adventure!

Amazing Day in the Douro Valley with Marú & Ricardo! - Marú was an absolute star—so friendly, fun and full of great stories about the Douro Valley and its wine traditions as well as Portuguese history. She made the whole day feel easy and special, and gave us amazing personal anecdotes and recommendations
Ricardo was fantastic behind the wheel, driving those curvy roads so smoothly that we could just sit back, enjoy the views and not worry about a thing.
Big thanks to Marú and Ricardo for making this tour such a highlight of our trip—5 stars!

Wine tasting and lunching in the Douro Valley - My wife, daughter and I had a wonderful day on this tour. Luis Matos was an excellent guide and gave us lots of great information about the area and its history. Lunch was amazing and the wines we had were so good most of the group bought some. The boat ride was really relaxing and picturesque and the 2nd winery allowed us to get inside an empty port cask! Luis saved the day by finding a lost credit card and returning it to our apartment! Would absolutely recommend this tour and ask for Luis, he’s a great guy!

Not to be missed! - This is a must do trip if you are visiting Porto. The scenery is breath taking along one of the most incredible drives you will ever see. Our tour was with Living Tours and our guide Pedro was superb. He was very witty and gave us loads of interesting nuggets of information throughout the day. It is a long day trip so I would advise bringing extra snacks and water but the lunch provided is very good.

A lot to be learned about customer service and hosts education - A lack of knowledge and customer service from the tour host and office staff meant we missed included activities. Our tour host told us to meet at the point we met on the day of the winery tour, at 9:30am, to meet the walking tour the following day. Three couples (on seperate tours the day before) were told the same thing and when waiting at the informed spot, were only told (after we found the Living Tours office), that it was a different meeting point. When asked how to catch up, the office staff gave vague directions and we ending up missing the tour entirely. Luckily, another tour company was more welcoming and willing to take us along with them. Living Tours: if you offer a product, train your staff better or send an email with clear instructions.

Average, commercialized experience - This was an overall good experience. The transportation was easy and the guide was very nice and informative. However, the river cruise is very short and the boat is shared with many other groups, so if you are not one of the first groups on the boat you don’t get a very good view of the river.

Douro river cruise with Great Rail Journeys - The Douro River has spectacular scenery and some of the deepest locks anywhere and these are seen close up from the water
Boats are relatively small due to lock dimensions and this restricts numbers to about 120 max - our boat was the MS Gil Eanes - a comfortable well run craft from Croisiere a Bord Du. On board staff were efficient and courteous a all times
Shore excursions tended to be over long with too many early starts and were often tedious with verbose guides in crowded locations - this is a Great Rail issue to sort out.
Whilst missing out some of the side trips was an option which I took - however, as the boat moved on once trippers were away at most locations it was rarely possible to explore and enjoy the delightful villages we saw - a great pity

Poor day on the Douro - Poor meeting experience in the morning g. Guide was not clear and our English tour was very hard to understand. The guide misspoke often. And there was no clear plan laid out for the day. Even when I asked for specific details, he didn’t answer my direct questions. Wine tasting at KOPKE was in one room for two groups and was very hard to hear. The group size in our van was 29. Packed every seat full and the guide wouldn’t allow general seating, he said one picked you stay there. We all paid the same price, why can’t we shift? Being stuck in the back the entire day was the worst. Not a good day to enjoy such a wonderful place.

Beware of pick up point using Apple Maps! - Unfortunately, we were not able to participate in this tour. Our group of 4 arrived at the location via Apple Maps at the scheduled time... Come to find out we were on the wrong side of the meet up point (next to a very large cathedral) and therefore missed the tour altogether. There was no phone call or email from the tour company. Luckily, we spoke to another tour guide with Living Tours who said the group had just left and if we wanted to rebook with them on the following day, we could. Glad we didn't or I suppose we would have had to pay twice! We reached out to Trip Advisor who contacted Living Tours on our behalf and they declined to refund our trip. At the end of the day, we paid for a service that wasn't received... Huge bummer because we were able to book with another tour company and ended up having a more intimate group and an extra stop for a comparable price even after this headache!
