Van tour - Incredible tour by a native from Portland. Eric is part owner of the company. Fantastic tour by in a ten passenger van, not a cattle herder bus. Everything is live except for cool personal clips!

Excellent tour guide - Eric is an excellent tour operator. As a local Eric had insight into the area that few other would have. You could tell he enjoyed sharing his knowledge. The van was very comfortable. Eric had plenty of iced water bottles for an army. I would highly recommend this tour.

Great lighthouse tour - What a fun time. It was cold & rainy but Eric was so enthusiastic, knew the national & local history of the lighthouses and did everything he could to make our tour enjoyable. He had a device that could activate the fog hours & the two kids on our tour got to make the fog horns sound. He & his sister run this business but he is a lobsterman for his “day” job. Definitely book this - you'll have a good time.

Compelling tour, friendly company - The weather was terrible - a Nor'easter had gone through overnight and the waves were high and the wind brisk and cold. However, all of that worked in our favour, as we got to see the real power of the ocean, with warnings about not going too close on the tourist walkways around the lighthouses. It was not scary, but it was truly compelling. Eric, our guide, is also a lobsterman, and that enhanced his narrative very strongly. Portland Explorer went above and beyond for me - I got the starting point mixed up, so I called the office (Eric's sister), and was given very clear directions on how to walk to where the van was, while the van waited for me (I was only about 5-10 min late, but still). The tour was informative, well-paced, and Eric made the foghorn work at one of the lighthouses (with Coast Guard permission). He also pointed out the local birdlife (I had no idea loons came to the ocean on their migrations), gave us a useful amount of historical context, and showed us one of the spots where he and his father had lobster lines. I had a great time and came away with even greater respect for those who make their livings on the ocean. Highly recommended.

Excellent tour and guide - Eric was excellent. So nice and knowledgeable. Even drove us closer to the lighthouse since my husband had trouble walking. Explained all about Portland not just the lighthouses. Lived in the area his entire life. Family owned. Would use them again.
