Food tour heaven - I’ve taken a few food tours in my lifetime and always find them enjoyable. With this in mind, my partner chose this evening street food tour in Port Of Spain, Trinidad, and I tagged along. From the very first smiling welcome by our guide Khaleel, I knew we were on to something special. After arriving exactly on time, he took us to an area that was vibrant with street food stalls and expertly guided and advised us on what was going on around us. If we had passed this area without a guide, we would have walked by it all in five minutes. Instead, our minds and tastebuds were enlightened in the most wonderful way. I got to try many new foods and understood what was behind them. It was an adventure. I love learning new things and here I learned a lot. We later moved to another part of the town and enjoyed another type of cuisine. More was on offer but we had to decline, despite having shared a good amount of food to avoid feeling full too early. We were too full to continue, but very happy with what had gone before. We also spent some guided time with a man selling a variety of juices, juices like I’d never tasted before. The vendor was so very helpful in explaining the fruits in the drinks and showing us pictures of the fruits. It was hugely educational and we sampled many new tastes. A few words about our wonderful guide Khaleel. He is at the top of his game and carefully explains everything and makes it so interesting. He never blurts out a string of words, he engages with you. He also has a culinary background so when he describes foods, he does so with knowledge and passion. He also speaks very clearly so you will understand everything without straining to hear. This was a fabulous evening in the hands of a charming and expert guide. Do you need to eat beforehand, in case you sample just a few things? No. Do you need to avoid eating beforehand so you have capacity to enjoy the generous and varied food provided? Yes. Can I recommend this tour to anyone interested in food and who wants to get close to Trinidad and Tobago culture? Most definitely.

I'm a trini food convert! - We had a brilliant experience going to the queens park savannah food stalls. Doubles, corn soup and a fresh juice stall where we could try a few different ones before getting a glass of our favourites. We then headed into town for a roti which was amazing! Khaleel our guide, was very knowledgeable and makes the tour personable to you making sure you get the most out of it. The portions are massive, definitely you share between two and that comes from someone of the larger variety. Would highly recommend!

A great food experience - My 17 year old daughter and I had a great time (and came home with full belly too!) This was a great way to start our trip in Trinidad to learn about the flavors, seasonings, fruit juices, local foods and history too. Our guide Tano was so knowledgeable and friendly and made us excited for learn more about the history and people of Trinidad. We enjoyed visiting the variety in food areas (from the local food market to the popular street with night life and restaurants.) This tour was a highlight for both of us.

Not worth the price - Booking the tour was super easy and the company did respond when called to verify the booking and get the information as to where and when to meet. Our tour guide Paranka? does not want to be in Trinidad and that is very evident. We started at Queen’s Park Savannah where we got pholourie and bbq pork to share amongst my party of 2 and the tour guide. The food was delicious. We were given the choice of getting drinks from there or going to get roti although the activity makes it seem as if it’s all included. We asked to buy our own drinks so we could get roti. He did pay for the drinks and then we went to the second stop for roti. We shared a roti and he offered to take us to get beers or back to our hotel to end the tour. I realized we never got the corn soup from the first stop, which we were really looking forward to so I asked about it. He tried to find something similar close to the area were already at but ended up going back to Queen’s Park where I ended up paying for the corn soup before he dropped us back off at the hotel. He was friendly and offered a little chatter. We never went to Ariapita Ave for Trini gyros. Overall the tour was extremely overpriced for sharing food amongst 3 people. It would be better to hire a taxi to take you to each spot and it would come out cheaper. The taxi drivers are all really nice and LOVE Trinidad.
