- Pompeii Archaeological Park - The Pompeii Tour begins daily at 10:30 am from the InStazione help desk. After signing in and providing your details, you will proceed to the Porta Anfiteatro entrance with the Guide. The tour includes visits to the Teatro Grande and the Odeon, the latter dating back to the Samnite city’s incorporation into the Roman colony. The tour then moves to Via Stabiana, a well-preserved cobbled street with sidewalks and pedestrian paths, lined with shops and homes. The journey continues to the Casa del Menandro, a richly adorned Hellenistic house, and proceeds along Via dell’Abbondanza. Here, visitors can explore one of the city’s oldest thermal buildings, with well-preserved male and female sections. The tour then heads to the brothel, where the famous erotic scenes can be admired, and concludes at the Civil Forum with the Temple of Jupiter, the Basilica, and the granaries displaying casts.
- Teatro Grande - The Teatro Grande is a Roman theater, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD and uncovered during the archaeological excavations of ancient Pompeii. It hosted comedies, mimes, pantomimes, and atellane plays.
- House of Menander (Casa del Menandro) - The Casa del Menandro is a large urban house in ancient Pompeii, covering nearly 1800 m². Excavated between 1926 and 1932, it exemplifies a wealthy family’s residence in ancient Pompeii. It is named not after its owner but after the image of the Greek poet Menander found there.
- Via dell’Abbondanza - The name comes from a bas-relief adorning a fountain at the street’s beginning near the Forum. It is one of Pompeii’s most famous streets due to its sequence of public facilities, shops, and residences, allowing visitors to experience the ancient hustle and bustle. Some shop paintings have been restored, including the thermopolium of Asellina, a well-known inn, and several artisan workshops (“officinae”).
- Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane) - The Stabian Baths are a Roman bath complex, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD and discovered during the archaeological excavations of ancient Pompeii. It is the oldest building of its kind in the city.
- Lupanar - Throughout the Roman era, lupanari were places dedicated to mercenary sexual pleasure, essentially houses of tolerance. Some remain visible in the ruins of ancient Pompeii.
- Forum - The Forum of Pompeii was constructed around the 4th century BC during the Samnite era, near a significant road junction with routes to Neapolis, Nola, and Stabiae. It was a small open area surrounded by numerous shops, mostly built with lava and tuff and cemented with clay. After the Roman conquest of Pompeii, the Forum was completely rebuilt and expanded, especially in the 2nd century BC. Shops and a perimeter wall with the nearby Temple of Apollo were demolished, and political and religious buildings were constructed around the square’s perimeter.
- Tempio di Giove Capitolino - The Temple of Jupiter overlooked the forum, later becoming the Capitolium and dedicated to the three main deities of the Eternal City: Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva. The temple’s basement housed sacred furnishings, votive gifts, and the public treasury known as erarium.
- Basilica - This grand public building, dating back to the 2nd century BC, served as an indoor forum where most activities typically held in the forum took place when weather conditions necessitated indoor venues. One side housed the tribunal, where the judge sat elevated above the parties. Notably, the judges’ area was only accessible via a movable wooden staircase to prevent the condemned from attacking the judges.
- Temple of Apollo - The cult of Apollo reached the Italic populations through the Greek world. Shortly before the eruption of 79 AD, this cult had lost followers as the importance of the Temple of Jupiter, or Capitolium, grew. Currently, the bronze statue of Apollo as an archer is clearly visible, with the statue of the goddess Diana in front.
- Granai del Foro - Currently, the granaries area serves as a storage site for materials found during excavations, but it was once the market for cereals and legumes. The absence of plaster traces suggests the structure was unfinished at the time of the eruption. The ponderary table is significant, as it held tools to ensure fair exchanges and convert different measurement units from various parts of the empire into those valid in Pompeii.
