Review of Xplor Park & Xplor Fuego – Adventure by Day and Night! Do not miss out on this experience! - Visited: Xplor Park (2023, Family of 6) & Xplor Fuego (October 2025, Couple)
Also check out my review of Xenses park!
Overall Impression
Both our daytime visit to Xplor Park with our four kids and our most recent Xplor Fuego experience as a couple were absolutely fantastic! Whether you go during the day with your family or at night for a glowing, torch-lit adventure, Xplor delivers an incredible combination of natural beauty, well-run activities, and excellent food. Every detail is thought through, from the organization and safety to the magic of walking through underground caves surrounded by stalactites.
Arrival & Getting There
For Xplor Fuego, the park opens around 5:30 p.m., perfect for catching the sunset before your nighttime adventure begins. We took an Uber from our hotel, which worked perfectly, and then a taxi back afterward since Ubers weren’t available later in the evening. The taxi prices are clearly posted at the park, so there’s no haggling required — super convenient!
If you prefer flexibility, I’d recommend this over booking a shuttle, as it lets you stay as long as you’d like. Renting a car is another easy option since everything is well-signed and the roads are straightforward.
Another huge plus and special experience for us was the check in process at the park. We purchased our tickets on the Xplor website which is very easy to do and upon check in at Xplor we were greeted by a guest services manager to thank us for our continued visits to the X parks and were given a branded travel tumbler as a token of thanks. We have visited Xenses, Xplor and Xplor Fuego and always book direct with them on the website.
You are provided a helmet on check in and a key fob for a locker attached to a wrist strap to keep secure. All belongings should be left in the locker. Make sure you go wearing a swim suit and water shoes and bring a waterproof phone protector if you want to take pictures. Nothing else is needed!
The Xplor Fuego Experience
This park is absolutely stunning at night — the caves are beautifully lit with torches and lanterns, and the atmosphere feels adventurous yet peaceful. Just walking through the underground pathways to reach each activity is an experience in itself. Everything is very well maintained, and safety is clearly a priority (you wear a helmet throughout the park, which makes sense when you see all the stalactites!).
We went on a Tuesday evening in October and found the park to be wonderfully uncrowded. There were people around, but often we felt like we had entire areas to ourselves — a rare treat at such a popular attraction!
Adventure Highlights
Jeep Ride (Amphibious Vehicles): This is always a family favorite! You drive your own jeep through the jungle, caves, and water tunnels — it’s loud, bumpy, and so much fun. The ride lasts close to 20 minutes and feels like a real off-road adventure. During our Fuego visit, we even spotted a large boa constrictor in the wild, which was incredible! (We used to have one as a pet, so it was a special moment.) Staff were nearby ensuring everyone was safe and aware — a great unexpected touch.
Underground River Swim: A must-do. Peaceful, scenic, and beautifully lit at night. You can choose between a short or long route — we recommend the longer one for a more immersive experience. Both paths end in a waterfall area that you swim through!
Raft River: A bit of a workout but very fun! You paddle using your hands in small foam rafts through narrow cave passages. Don’t worry if you bump around — that’s part of the fun.
Water Slide & Wave Pool: These were new for us this visit. The slide requires a balanced weight on your tube (ask the staff if unsure), but it’s worth it — my partner loved it! The wave pool is shallow but surprisingly powerful when the waves start, and it’s a nice place to relax if you skip the slide.
Hammock Zip Line: Even for those height averse such as myself this little zip line near the buffet area is fantastic. You sit in a hammock and zip down landing into the water (you will get water in your face and try not to breath it up your nose as it is salty!)
We didn’t do the zip lines this time (I’m not great with heights!), but having done them before during our 2023 visit, I can say they’re a highlight for anyone brave enough — especially at night when the fire torches light up the course!
Dining – Buffet Dinner
The buffet at Xplor Fuego is excellent — one of the best theme park meals we’ve ever had. The barbecue ribs were standout, alongside an incredible selection of grilled meats, Mexican favorites, and kid-friendly dishes. There’s a huge dessert section with so many choices that it’s impossible to pick just one. It’s hearty, fresh, and perfect for refueling between adventures.
Tips for Future Visitors
Bring water shoes — they’re ideal for walking through the caves and wet areas.
Expect to wear a helmet the entire time (safety first and totally worth it).
Arrive early to enjoy a smoother check-in and get your bearings.
The park provides lockers and changing areas, so packing light is fine. If you forget anything they do have a store for purchases.
For Xplor Fuego, bring a GoPro or waterproof phone case — the lighting and atmosphere make for incredible photos.
If you’re nervous about heights, you can still have an amazing time — there’s plenty to do without the zip lines!
I would not go to this park if you have mobility issues. It was sad to see many who I assume waited until retirement to start doing these adventure and its a challenge, don't wait just do it while you can! If you do have mobility issues I would choose a different X park such as Xenses.
Final Thoughts
Xplor and Xplor Fuego are both world-class experiences — family-friendly, safe, beautifully designed, and full of adventure. During the day, it’s perfect for kids and families who want action and discovery. At night, the park transforms into something magical — torches flickering, caves glowing, and the jungle alive with sound.
We loved both visits for different reasons and would highly recommend doing both if you have the chance. Whether you’re going as a couple or with kids, Xplor is a must-do in the Riviera Maya.

The most entertaining park - We went to this park in the fire version that starts at 4.30pm. It is worth going with children over 7-8 years old, as younger children cannot access most activities. My favorite activities were slides, zip lines and amphibious cars. The walk along the underground river takes about an hour and you have to wear slippers at all times because in some sections there are stones at the bottom of the river.
I would definitely visit him again on a forthcoming visit to Mexico.

One of the best experiences you can experience during your stay in Cancun. If you like adrenaline and - My recommendation for people who have doubts about taking the photo package, I advise you to take it, as my partner carried cell phone and GoPro and the photos did not go as we expected.

Xcaret Fuego made this my best trip to Cancun ever. - I have been to Cancun many times in the past 40 years. The Fuego experience made this my best trip yet. Adventure, geology and history are some of my passions. This fulfilled many of them.

Best Excursion We Have EVER Done - Absolutely the best excursion we have EVER been on. If we could do it again, we would. You get so much value out of what you pay and it is such a unique experience. The caves are incredible and the whole setup is so well put together. This has to be a TripAdvisor Best of the Best for us. Every activity we did was amazing. We couldn't recommend this mor!

Adrenaline rush! - Great adrenaline rush! If you want to try zip lining, this is your place. You are allowed to stop at different point's, if you decide you've had enough. I had to stop with 1 line left. Just couldn't do it. Underground water parts were very nice and relaxing but the water is cold. About 75 degrees. Dinner was good with lots of options.

Experience Xplor Fuego October 03 and congratulations to Oswaldo from Chihuahua. - I attended on Friday, October 3rd, unfortunately due to bad weather and storm, many activities were cancelled, and I could only complete the amphibians (in which I had to wait about 1 hour 15 minutes because apparently they had closed the other activities) and 2 lines of the zip line circuit and absolutely nothing else, it is understandable, and for that part I do not complain, however, several staff members rating that they are tired of their work, have a terrible attitude even if you go cheerful and cooperate with their instructions, but there are also many other collaborators who treat you as a friend and genuinely improve the experience, this experience would have been horrible but for having good company and we had fun with the little we reached. While doing the zip line circuit, the activity was canceled due to the weather, and all well and understandable, but it took about 40 minutes to pick us up, fortunately Oswaldo, the tower manager put a good Mood with all of us who were in the tower, explained the situation and started talking with all of us to make the wait more enjoyable. When they arrived for us, and we got into the vehicle, we had to wait another 15 minutes, it is understood that it was for logistical reasons but they did not even have the courtesy to explain the situation. He didn't give me time to go to the buffet. In general, the climate situation is understood, but could be better coped with.
