Phong Nha cave, also known as the “river cave,” is located along the historic Ho Chi Minh trail and serves as a relic of the American/Vietnam war. This cave played a crucial role in supporting the battleground of South Vietnam by providing a safe haven from routine bombings. It was used to hide secret floating bridges that were deployed at night to help trucks transport supplies to the south. The cave also functioned as a hospital, with weapons stationed at its entrance. Today, this area marks the beginning of the popular Ho Chi Minh Road, featuring a lush, mountainous landscape. A visit to this cave includes a 6km dragon boat ride up the turquoise Son river and into the cave, where you can admire its magnificent structure. Drift 1km into the cave before exploring 300m on foot.
