Thoughtfully Laid Out - We’ve been to a lot of zoos around the United States and even overseas and this definitely was in the top 20%. Very thoughtfully laid out and spread out so even if it’s busy, it doesn’t feel crowded. Yes, you’re in the Arizona desert, but there’s lots of shade.

Beautiful zoo - This is a lovely zoo. Has a gift shop , a water play area for the little ones. There is giraffe feeding available. And live Camel rides. We rented motor scooters in the shape of animals and drove around the zoo. It was a wonderful experience. Plenty of parking. Wonderful and kind staff

Beautiful - What a great way to spend a day. It is very large. It was clean, the people that work there are friendly and informative. There is gentle music playing through the park. Some areas are paved and some areas are gravel. There is even a stable. There a cooling stations throughout— def needed in AZ.

Phoenix zoo - Try to go either later in afternoon when the animals get fed or in the earlier morning (around 9 when zoo opens) before it gets hot and the animals are i in the shade and tough to see.

Unmet potential - This zoo and layout has a lot of unmet potential. There are large enclosures with few animals. I’m not convinced they have an elephant. Could be a great zoo, but needs work.

Could do better - The zoo is extensive and quite a lot of walking but not a problem to us. We are seasoned travellers and is lacking compared with many zoos we have visited. It lacks major animals! One bear, One tiger, Only saw one giraffe though supposed to be more, one leopard, etc. No elephant. Most of the big cats except the lions had no company and exhibited classic boredom pacing back and fourth. Lots of empty exhibits, got annoyed seeing "Animals temporarily off exhibitive". Some of cages and enclosures poor and not up to modern standards. Most cafes closed. Nowhere to get food. Pricey for what it is then you have to pay extra to see manta rays etc. Bit dissappointing.

Zoo disappointing and expensive - The zoo is set in a beautiful area and extremely well kept and clean and open. But we thought it was too spread and very few animals compared to other zoos. We also took the shuttle tour and it was short and we really didn't learn much from the tour and wouldn't recommend spending the money. And we think the entrance fee was high, and the zoo wasn't worth the money. Much more beautiful things to spend your time and money on in the area.

No giraffes or elephants... - No giraffes or elephants were present. Heard from someone else that the zoo no longer had elephants. We did enjoy the little monkeys in their habitat
