An enjoyable zoo visit. - We had an enjoyable early afternoon visiting at the zoo. We were able to see the animals in most areas although quite a few were napping. It was fun to see such a wide variety of animals.

A nice walk in the Zoo - A great zoological park heavy on the birds and animals that are from arid regions. We visited after a 3 day closure sue to storms - and some exhibits were still closed due to damage.

Nicely spread out - We spent a morning strolling through the zoo in the warm January sunshine. The zoo layout promotes meandering as you wind in an out of the exhibits. Because of the rock and roll marathon, we had to park over at the ASU baseball parking lot and walk the 15 minutes to the zoo entrance because of road closures. The upside of this is after arriving around 9 when it opened, we had the place largely to ourselves for an hour or so which was fantastic. The zoo’s marque animal in my opinion are the two Sumatran rhinos and the lions. Sadly the are still exhibiting orangutans. Birds feature significantly across the collection including some people friendly flamingos that came right up to the fence as we observed them. There are also quite a few types of monkeys, hoofed stock and a tiger, leopard a small pride of lions.

Good, not great. - The zoo is very organized, very close to the city, and well maintained. Its a very pretty place with different animals to see. Must of the animals we resting far from the viewing point, and we couldn't see or interact with must of them. We expected more from the experience, maybe we had bad luck with the specific moment we went.

Best to wait for Winter, if at all.... - Not sure if having a big diverse zoo is a wise investment for a community like Phoenix. Went to a half dozen habitats before seeing our 1st actual animal. They've all found a cool spot that isn't visible to visititors. We continued to come upon several more habitats where the animals are purposely absent,I assume again because of the heat. There is an Arizona Trail with indigenous animals to the state that were more present. But even there, the big cats and other animals from the mountain regions were hiding. We gave up after 2½ hours between the heat & the boredom. Exiting thru the gift shop I usually buy a patch & a pin from places I visit that are typically $5-6. Here they were $11-14 so I passed I used expiring Viator points to purchase our tickets, otherwise I would have been PO'ed about spending $35 each for our tickets. Didn't leave yearning to come back and try again in more moderate temperatures.

Clean, Helpful VERY poor layout for kids - Pros; Zoo was clean with maps at major intersections [only!]. Staff was always helpful and friendly. Animals appeared well cared for. Cons: I have been to many zoos throughout the world and USA. 3 stars would be a GENEROUS rating. Zoo petting area is far from the beaten path and was closed early to be sure anyone there could have time to exit the gate. No notice to visitors provided. My granddaughter complained three times she was tired of walking to get there. And we we got there they had closed early. Many areas were blocked off or closed - which one did one know until they got there. Not many animals in an exhibit so finding them was a challenge or not possible. The Zoo Store was WAY overpriced. Expected 2X the normal but they hiked prices 3-4 times the normal!

Sad - The ticket you sold me was for a different event. I was unable to use it. I was led to believe it was for zoo entrance and the ticket ended up being for the night light show.
