Embracing the Warmth of Phnom Penh’s Past
As the sun rises over Phnom Penh, casting a golden hue over the city, the air is filled with a sense of anticipation. The weekend promises a journey through time, exploring the rich tapestry of Cambodia’s history. The weather, warm and inviting, sets the perfect backdrop for a cultural exploration. With temperatures reaching up to 92.2°F on February 22nd, it’s a day to embrace the sun, with sunscreen in hand, and delve into the stories of the past.
Begin your journey with a Private Tour of Oudong Mountain & Phnom Baset on February 22nd. This private full-day tour offers a glimpse into Cambodia’s former capital city, Oudong, and the pre-Angkorian temples of Phnom Baset. As you ascend the 500 steps to Oudong Temple, the view of the countryside unfolds, a reminder of the resilience and beauty of this land. The tour, available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, is a perfect way to start your day, with the cool morning breeze accompanying your ascent.
“Not to be missed - This was the best tour we had outside of PP. The tour guide and driver were fantastic, took great care of us and were very knowledgeable. As it was just my sister and I, the guide was able to answer a lot of questions, and helped us meet one of the nuns, who was so sweet and excited to meet us as we her. The guide also helped me try the sugar cane drink and gave us a fun tour of the local market and its local specialties. Oudon was simply amazing to explore and something not to be missed. Phnom Baset was also amazing as the construction is new and ongoing and shows great examples of what Ankor Wat’s construction would have been like when new. Overall everything went smoothly and we had such a great time. I would highly recommend.” - Reviewed on 2024-08-09
A Journey Through Time and Taste
As the day progresses, the city of Phnom Penh reveals its layers of history and culture. The afternoon sun casts long shadows over the city, inviting you to explore its heart. On February 23rd, embark on a City Highlights Tour from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This tour takes you through the poignant history of the Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields, offering a somber reflection on Cambodia’s past.
The tour also introduces you to the vibrant flavors of Khmer cuisine, a testament to the resilience and creativity of the Cambodian people. As you wander through the markets, the aroma of spices fills the air, a sensory journey that complements the historical exploration. The tour, led by the knowledgeable Sophoarn, promises an educational and memorable experience.
“Enjoyable tour by Sophoarn. - Our tour guide for this tour was Sophoarn. He was extremely knowledgeable and he had a very good sense of humour. Parts of this tour are quite dark and chilling due to the horrendous war crimes of Cambodia’s past by an evil man but Sophoarn guided us through skilfully. This is a tour that everyone should do when they visit Phnom Penh as so much of this chilling history is sadly not really taught in the west and it is something that all should know about so that hopefully history will not repeat itself. Sophoarn Is an excellent guide and we totally recommend his tours in his really comfortable air conditioned vehicle.” - Reviewed on 2025-02-09
