Worth it day trip from phu my port - We booked this private Cu Chi Tunnels tour with pick-up from Phu My Port while our cruise ship docked there, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions on our Vietnam itinerary. If you’re wondering whether this tour is worth it or if it’s too rushed, here is my honest experience. - Pickup & Transfer (Phu My Port to Cu Chi)
We were picked up right at the port gate after a short shuttle ride from the cruise. The driver and guide were waiting with a clear sign, and the car was clean, spacious, and had strong AC (which is a lifesaver in Vietnam’s humidity). It’s about a 3-hour drive to Cu Chi Tunnels depending on traffic, so be prepared with water and snacks if needed. We used the time to listen to the guide sharing about Vietnamese culture, the war, and Saigon life and then take a short nap. - Cu Chi Tunnels experience
: We spent roughly 2 hours exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels. Our guide was excellent – he explained the war history clearly and answered all questions with patience. We saw traps, weapons, underground kitchens, and the small hidden entrances used by the Viet Cong. Crawling through the tunnel was optional, but I recommend trying at least a short section to feel what life was like down there (it’s tight and humid, but safe and fascinating). There’s also an option to fire AK47 or M16 at the shooting range for an extra fee – some in our group tried it and said it was a cool experience. - Lunch in Saigon
: After Cu Chi, we drove back to Saigon (about 1.5 hours). Lunch was at a local restaurant arranged by the tour company. The food was tasty, authentic, and included in the tour price. Quick Saigon city tour
In the afternoon, we did a short city sightseeing drive covering some iconic spots like Notre Dame Cathedral & Saigon Post Office, Reunification Palace and Ben Thanh Market - Timing & return:
We arrived back on time with ample time to reboard before cruise departure. The company was very aware of ship timings and kept us updated throughout. - Tips if you are considering this tour: * Bring a hat, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent for Cu Chi. * The tunnels are humid and a bit claustrophobic; if you have knee/back issues, crawling might be challenging. * There are clean toilets at Cu Chi and at lunch. * Carry some small VND cash if you want to buy drinks or souvenirs. * Let your guide know your cruise departure time in advance for peace of mind. Overall, it was a full but smooth day, and we felt we got a meaningful insight into Vietnam’s history and culture without worrying about logistics. Highly recommend this tour if you want to make the most of your cruise stop and see both Cu Chi Tunnels and a glimpse of Saigon in a single day.

UNFORGETTABLE CU CHI TUNNELS PRIVATE TOUR - UNFORGETTABLE and a little.... sweaty, for sure lol Awesome day trip from the port! Yes, it’s a bit of a drive — but hey, good naps happen in comfy vans. The tunnels were wild (and a little claustrophobic!), but super cool. Our guide had all the fun facts, and we even got to crawl through like secret agents. Tried some local food — surprisingly tasty, not scary. Lunch was gooddd, couldn't help breaking my diet streak First time in Vietnam? This tour’s amazing. History, adventure, food… and a bit of cardio. What more do you need?
