Cusco - Challacancha - Soraypampa - Humantay Lake - Sky Camp
Salkantay Trail - Begin with an early pickup and drive to Mollepata, where an optional breakfast awaits before proceeding to Challacancha, the trek’s starting point. The morning walk, lasting about 3 hours, leads to the first accommodation, the Sky Camp of Soraypampa. After a revitalizing lunch at the facilities, the afternoon trek heads to the renowned Humantay Lake, celebrated as the jewel in the mountains. The 3-hour round trip on this first day offers the chance to immerse in the breathtaking Andean scenery and the lake’s reflections before returning for a delicious dinner and a well-deserved rest.
Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass - Chaullay - Andean Huts
Salkantay Trail - Today presents the most challenging day, but the rewards are spectacular views and stunning scenery. After breakfast, the journey continues with a 3-hour ascent to the Salkantay Pass, where time is spent capturing photos of the incredible landscape and regaining energy. The hike then descends to the lunch spot through the cloud forest, continuing towards the jungle’s edge. Surrounded by exotic scenery, the destination is Chaullay, where the night is spent in an Andean Hut.
Chaullay - Colpapampa - La Playa - Lucmabamba - Jungle Domes
Salkantay Trail - The adventure progresses with a hike through the Santa Teresa Valley jungle, showcasing a lush landscape of rivers, waterfalls, orchids, and various plantations, including banana, coffee, and avocado. Arrival at the Jungle Domes camp is at lunchtime, allowing for rest before enjoying a free afternoon to explore the surroundings and visit an organic coffee farm. A restful night’s sleep is accompanied by the sounds of nature.
Lucmabamba - Llactapata - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes
Salkantay Trail - The excitement builds as the hike follows a section of the original Inca Trail. A 2-hour ascent leads to the Inca archaeological site of Llactapata, offering the first glimpse of Machu Picchu and insights into the site’s history before tackling the next stretch.
The journey continues downhill to lunch, followed by a trek to Hidroelectrica. From there, the choice is to walk to Aguas Calientes for about 3 hours or take a train for an additional fee. Dinner is at a restaurant, and the night is spent in a hotel, preparing for the grand day ahead.
Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco
Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - This day marks the pinnacle of the journey at one of the World’s Seven Wonders, Machu Picchu. To avoid the crowds, the day starts early at the Citadel for an initial overview. A 2-hour guided tour of the site provides comprehensive knowledge, including visits to the most significant areas. Additional hikes to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountains offer further exploration at a personal pace. The return to Aguas Calientes for lunch precedes the train ride to Ollantaytambo. From there, private transport returns to the hotel in Cusco, allowing for rest and reflection on this unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
