Inca Trail - The short Inca Trail hiking tour to Machu Picchu begins with a 4 a.m. pickup from your hotel. Then, you’ll head to the train station to catch the 6:10 a.m. train from Ollantaytambo. The trail follows the Urubamba River until reaching Km104, where the trek begins. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of farmlands, snow-capped peaks, and the powerful Urubamba River, a source of the Amazon River. At 104 km (2,000 m), the trek commences. Once prepared, snacks will be provided, and a group photo will be taken before visiting the first Inca site. After an orientation and tour of the Inca site, the hike continues along the Classic Inca Trail. If the weather permits, there will be magnificent views of Machu Picchu, the Urubamba River, and other nearby Inca sites.
After a three-hour hike, the trail reaches the most beautiful Incan site, Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young), at 2,600 m/8,500 ft. Many do not get the chance to see the intricate water fountain, temples, and agricultural terraces, offering a perfect opportunity to learn about Inca history. The site is set against a cliff, surrounded by stunning mountains. Nearby are campsites where those on the Classic Inca Trail spend the night. A hot lunch will be prepared on-site by one of our chefs. Water refills are available, and there will be time to rest after lunch. From Wiñay Wayna, the walk continues to the Sun Gate, offering a picturesque view of Machu Picchu. After enjoying the breathtaking views, the descent to Machu Picchu begins.
A benefit of this trek is that by the time Machu Picchu is reached, day travelers will have departed, leaving the area more private. After taking photos, a bus will take you down to Aguas Calientes and then to your hotel. Dinner will be at Indio Feliz (included), renowned for the best cuisine in Aguas Calientes. After dinner, an early night is recommended to make the most of the following day.
Machu Picchu guided tour - Back to Ollantaytambo - Cusco your hotel
Machupicchu District - An early morning start allows for catching the sunrise at Machu Picchu. A private English-speaking guide will provide a two-hour guided tour. Following this, there will be time to explore Machu Picchu independently. Those with Huayna Picchu tickets can climb the mountain, which takes about an hour and a half round-trip. After exploring, either take a bus or walk down to Aguas Calientes for a leisurely afternoon. Remember your train, which departs later that afternoon back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a drive back to Cusco.
