Tambopata National Reserve - Reception at the airport or bus terminal and transfer to the Monte Amazónico Lodge office for registration. Transfer to the captaincy port where we will take a one-hour boat ride to our lodge. Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome meeting with a refreshing fruit juice from the region and settle into your rooms.
After a restful break, embark on a two-hour introductory walk through the dense tropical forest, guided by an expert local guide. Explore trails and marvel at trees that are over five hundred years old. You may also spot various wildlife species such as toucans, orioles, macaws, monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. Experience the magic of the Amazon rainforest within the TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE, which spans 278,000 hectares of protected land.
After lunch, visit “Monkey Island,” located across the Madre de Dios River from our lodge. Here, you will encounter different species, including families of Capuchin monkeys. Return to the lodge afterward.
In the evening, we will search for white alligators typically found on sandbars in the Madre de Dios River. A flashlight will be necessary for this activity. Additionally, you may see capybaras, the world’s largest rodents, which can weigh up to 60 kilos. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Sandoval Lake
Lago Sandoval - After breakfast, we will walk 3 km through the dense rainforest to reach Sandoval Lake, a habitat for piranhas and one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. We will take a rowing boat to observe a variety of birds and monkeys, including shansho, cormorants, jacanas, puma herons, chickens, cotomonos, monk friars, black machins, pichicos, and sloths. We may also encounter a family of giant otters, which can grow up to two meters long and are endangered, as well as the largest recorded alligators, over 4 meters long. Return to the lodge for a typical lunch.
