The people of Perast began by throwing stones around the cliffs to build a small chapel, and continued to add stones, causing the island to expand over time.

Additionally, the tradition of piling stones, known as Fašinada, around Our Lady of the Rocks has evolved into a ceremonial event held annually on July 22 for over 500 years!
