Hierapolis, meaning “Holy City,” was an ancient Greco-Roman city in Phrygia, situated on hot springs in Southwest Anatolia. Its ruins are located near the modern town of Pamukkale.

Hierapolis is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hot springs have served as a spa since the 2nd century B.C.E., attracting visitors seeking relief from ailments, with many choosing to retire or spend their final days there.

Some key attractions include the extensive necropolis filled with sarcophagi, the main street with its gates and latrines, the cathedral, the theatre, and St. Philip’s tomb. The hot springs create stunning cascades known as the Cotton Castle. Due to the distance, it is necessary to depart from Antalya early and return late, but the experience of this remarkable place is truly worthwhile.
