Kick off the new year with thrilling adventures in Palm Springs! With perfect weather and exciting activities like hidden hikes and self-guided tours, this weekend promises unforgettable experiences. Dive into the scenic beauty and cultural richness of this desert oasis.
Discovering Hidden Trails and Oasis Wonders
As the sun rises over Palm Springs on January 4th, the city beckons with the promise of new adventures. The weather is perfect for a morning hike, with temperatures peaking at a comfortable 71.5°F. For those seeking a heart-pounding start to their day, the Scenic Oasis Hike offers an exhilarating journey through some of Palm Springs’ best-kept secret trails. This guided loop hike, available from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, is a treasure trove of stunning desert views and hidden palm tree oases. The trails, known primarily to locals, provide a tranquil escape from the bustling tourist paths.
The hike is not for the faint-hearted, with an elevation gain of about 800 feet and rocky, uneven paths. But the reward is worth every step. As you ascend, the panoramic views of the Coachella Valley unfold, revealing sights of the windmills, Joshua Tree National Park, and the majestic San Jacinto Mountains. Keep your eyes peeled for the endangered Peninsular Bighorn Sheep, often spotted in this area during winter. One recent review from April 2024 captures the essence of this adventure:
Challenging Scenic Hike with an Experienced Local Guide - Carlos is an excellent guide. The hike took about 3 hours and we kept a moderate pace and all of the hikers were challenged with the incline and the pace. Carlos knows the area very well and we were able to take less traveled routes so we really had the place to ourselves for most of the hike. Carlos taught us a lot about the ecosystem and the views were amazing. I am so glad I did this hike and I would definitely recommend this hike. (Reviewed at: 2024-04-15)
A Drive Through Time and Stars
After a morning of hiking, the adventure continues with a self-guided driving tour through the iconic landscapes of Joshua Tree and Palm Springs. Available from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on both January 4th and 5th, the Driving Tour is a perfect way to explore at your own pace. This tour takes you through the mystical Joshua Tree National Park, where you’ll encounter imposing boulder formations and the legendary Joshua trees.
The tour also delves into the glamorous past of Palm Springs, with stops at historic celebrity homes once owned by the likes of Elvis and Frank Sinatra. As you cruise through the Movie Colony neighborhood, imagine the golden era of Hollywood stars seeking refuge in this desert paradise. The tour’s flexibility allows you to pause and explore whenever you wish, making it an ideal choice for those who love to wander off the beaten path. A review from October 2024 highlights the tour’s appeal:
Incredible! - My husband and I are from the Niagara region of Canada. We travelled to Palm Springs just under a week ago with a two week stay in Palm Springs. We travelled by car to the downtown area on a few occasions and up to the mountains however, we didn’t know where we were going. I looked up on Tripadvisor and found the self guided tours and our vacation is now an incredible vacation. We drove into Joshua tree today on a self-guided tour, as well as another driving tour of Palm Springs. You drive throughout the tour with narration on Bluetooth and it tells you where you can stop where you can park and what’s to do. You then pause the tour as you go out and explore and then you resume when you get back to the car. It was crazy and dirt cheap. This is the future tourism. love it 👍 (Reviewed at: 2024-10-21)
