Horrible and Unsafe Experience - Trust me when I say, pay the extra money to dive on another island. I have never actually taken the time to write a negative review before. I have been diving for over a decade and this was by far the most unprofessional and unsafe operation I have experienced. Not once did the dive master look back at the group to verify the location of the divers and to ensure every one was safe. The visibility was poor which made it incredibly challenging to see further than the dive run front of you. Each member in the group had to work hard to keep up with the dive master. If the diver master wanted your attention or wanted you to move, he would either grab your fin or tank to do so himself. I’m curious why this is more appropriate than using a noise maker on the tank to get the attention from the divers. On the second dive, the dive master decided to swim against the current for 75% of the dive. The strong current coupled with the visibility made this a challenging dive, especially for the new divers in the group. After about 5 minutes in the water, the dive master was so far ahead that we spent the whole dive trying to catch up. One of the members ran out of air rather quickly because of this and was forced to do a safety stop to surface. The dive master was infuriated by this and began scolding us under water by throwing his hands at us and pulling down the diver by the fins during his safety stop. Incredibly unsafe and unprofessional. Once we all surfaced, he began yelling at us some more about how we should have kept up and not surfaced without him. Yelling at a diver who was clearly in distress and made a safety call is never ok. I tried to explain how what happened and was ignored. Once on the boat, the dive master sat at the front and did not speak to any of the divers. I understand getting frustrated when fearful situations occur; however, the immature reaction and tantrum that was thrown by the leader was incredible. I would have rather paid to take a boat to Phuket to go diving rather than going with Elixir. I have experienced personality differences with dive masters before but being unsafe is where it gets serious and warrants a review. I reached out to the dive master with my concerns via e-mail and was given a response of justification for his actions and continued criticism of our group.
