Marrakech - Tizi n’Tichka - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah - Ouarzazate - Dades Gorges
Tizi n’Tichka - Begin the tour by picking up all travelers and driving through Tizi n’Tichka, the highest mountain pass in North Africa, located at an elevation of 2,260 meters (7,415 feet) in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. It is a crucial connection between Marrakesh and Ouarzazate via National Route 9 (N9).
Ait Ben Haddou - Upon arrival at Ait Ben Haddou, meet a local guide (guide fees not included, 3€). Visit the historic village of Ait Benhaddou, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site in southern Morocco. This stunning Berber village, constructed from clay and mud bricks, has been featured in numerous films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Alexander. Enjoy a guided walk around the village to learn about its history and culture. After the tour, savor lunch at a local restaurant (lunch not included).
Next, travel to the city of Ouarzazate, where you will visit the Atlas Film Studios, famous for hosting many film productions. Explore old movie sets and discover more about the films made in this region.
Taourirt Kasbah - Visit the renowned Taourirt Kasbah. Due to recent earthquake damage in Morocco, the site is under repair and not fully safe for entry. For now, stop outside the village to take photos and admire the view.
Atlas Studios - After the photo stop, continue to the city of Ouarzazate. While the Atlas Film Studios are a popular attraction, a full tour takes about an hour and may delay hotel arrival. Therefore, make a brief stop outside the studios for photos only. For a more comprehensive experience, a guided day trip to Ouarzazate is available, allowing more time to explore both the city and the studios, known for hosting many international film productions. Even from the outside, the studios offer excellent views and photo opportunities.
Vallee Des Roses - Stop as you drive through the Dades and Rose Valleys, known for their irrigation systems. These valleys are also called the “Valleys of a Thousand Kasbahs” due to the numerous kasbahs scattered throughout the area.
During the stop in the Rose Valley, visit a local cooperative and explore beauty and skincare shops using products made from the unique Damask rose, central to the area’s culture and economy. If visiting in May, experience the Rose Festival, a vibrant celebration of the rose harvest.
Boumalne Dades - Continue the journey through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs towards Boumalne Dades. Pass through Berber villages before arriving at the hotel for check-in. Spend the night in the Gorges.
In certain situations, such as heavy rain, an overnight stay in the Rose Valley in Kelaat M’Gouna may be necessary. This is because Boumalne Dades is in a valley surrounded by mountains, which can lead to strong floods and road closures due to rising rivers.
Boumalne Dades - Tinghir - Merzouga Desert
Boumalne Dades - Wake up in the morning, enjoy breakfast, and relax until the driver calls. Once ready, join the group in the van, take a seat, and continue the journey.
Tinghir - Tinghir, situated between the Atlas Mountains and the desert, offers stunning landscapes and rich Berber culture. Explore the impressive Todgha Gorges, stroll through palm groves, and visit local markets. This is a wonderful blend of nature and tradition. Wear comfortable shoes and respect local customs. Enjoy the time in this peaceful oasis town!
Merzouga Desert - Upon arrival in Merzouga, enjoy a warm cup of mint tea before embarking on a camel caravan adventure. After a 90-minute ride through the breathtaking golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, reach the desert camp at the base of the Great Dune. Experience a stunning sunset over the dunes during the trek. Afterward, enjoy dinner at the camp and spend the night under the starry sky. Choose between staying in a shared tent at the standard camp or a private tent at the luxury desert camp.
Merzouga Desert - Kalaat M’Gouna - Marrakech
Merzouga - Wake up early to have breakfast and watch the stunning sunrise over the golden dunes of Merzouga. Then, ride camels back to the hotel to meet the driver. Drive towards Marrakech, with several stops along the way for breaks, where you can stretch, buy souvenirs, or use the restroom, including smoking.
Kalaat M’Gouna - Arrive at Kalaat M’Gouna for lunch.
Marrakech - Arrive in Marrakech and be dropped off at the nearest accessible point. After a beautiful journey, leave with new friends and a deeper understanding of Berber and Moroccan culture.
