Experience a peaceful riverboat journey down the renowned Tempisque River on this enlightening wildlife trip. The reserve boasts a high concentration and diversity of bird species, a significant factor in its establishment. This is largely due to its varied ecological environment, featuring 15 distinct landscape types ranging from evergreen forests to mangrove marshlands. Regularly seen bird species in the park include the magnificent curassows, vibrant scarlet macaws, white ibis, roseate spoonbills, anhingas, jabirus, and wood storks among numerous others.
The park safeguards one of the most risk-ridden ecosystems - it’s among the last standing tropical dry rainforests which once blanketed most of Central America. Presently, tropical dry rainforests only span less than 0.1% of their original volume and are acknowledged as the most threatened ecosystems in the tropical region.
The Palo Verde National Park, which translates to ‘Green Tree’ in Spanish, is an illustrious National Park of Costa Rica, nestled within the Tempisque Conservation Area.
