  Before starting with the brush, participants will change into traditional Japanese attire, such as a kimono.

➤ Mindset and Tools
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the differences between calligraphy as a decorative writing form found overseas and Japanese Shodo.

➤ Learn and Practice Holding the Brush and Using the Tools

➤ Kanji
Select a favorite Japanese kanji to challenge oneself. Kanji, known as “the most difficult language to learn,” carries various meanings for each character.

➤ Learn and Practice Techniques
Brush Movement—Brush Technique
The most basic brush movements: “tome,” “hane,” and “harai.”

Activity 4
➤ Kanji Practice
Participants will learn the stroke order of the kanji they selected earlier.

Activity 5
➤ Surprise
The instructor will write the participants’ foreign names on wooden tags using the kanji characters they have chosen.

Activity 6
➤ Final Draft
Create a final draft while considering all that has been learned so far.

Activity 7
Photo Shoot
Capture the beautiful kimono attire and artwork in a photograph.

Capture the elegance of your kimono and artwork in a photograph. You will be photographed as a graceful Yamato Nadeshiko or a courageous samurai.

A calligraphy expert will meticulously write the kanji character you practiced today on a bag, and you will receive a Samurai Honor original bag as a gift. Please take your creation home in this bag.
