Immersive, Inspiring, and Unforgettable – A True Samurai Experience in Osaka! - I had the absolute privilege of attending the Samurai Training Experience KENDO in Osaka, and I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable highlights of my time in Japan. This wasn’t just an activity—it was a full cultural journey that transported me into the disciplined yet noble world of the samurai. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by Toshi and Kumiko, whose warmth, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm set the tone for an extraordinary experience. The training space was immaculate and authentic, immediately creating the perfect environment for both learning and appreciation of tradition. The session began with an insightful introduction to the history and cultural significance of Kendo. Toshi’s deep knowledge and passion shone through as he explained the values of respect, focus, and self-discipline that underpin this martial art—principles that extend far beyond the dojo. From there, the experience became wonderfully hands-on. We moved through the fundamentals—stance, posture, grip, and precise footwork—before learning striking techniques. Toshi broke down each movement with clarity and patience, while Kumiko ensured that every detail was understood and perfected. Their guidance made the techniques accessible even for beginners, without losing the authenticity of the art. Then came the highlight: donning the traditional bogu armor. Feeling its weight and hearing the rhythmic sound of the shinai brought the training to life in a way that was both exhilarating and humbling. The friendly sparring that followed was pure excitement—stepping forward, striking with focus, and hearing the encouraging calls from Toshi created an atmosphere of energy and connection that I will never forget. What made this experience even more special for me was the kindness and compassion I received. I am currently going through a difficult period in my life and recovering from a physical injury. Toshi and Kumiko took the time to look after me, adapt the training to my needs, and make sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. Their patience, care, and encouragement made me feel not just welcomed, but genuinely cared for and supported. In those moments, I truly felt taken care of and loved—something I will carry with me far beyond this day. This was not simply a “tourist activity”—it was an authentic, respectful introduction to an art form refined over centuries. Every detail, from the warm welcome to the precise teaching, reflected the dedication and passion of Toshi and Kumiko. I left not only with new skills and wonderful memories but also with a deeper understanding of the values that define Kendo: respect for others, mental clarity, and perseverance. Whether you are a martial arts enthusiast, a lover of Japanese history, or simply seeking a unique and meaningful experience in Osaka, this is an absolute must-do. Thank you, Toshi and Kumiko, for an unforgettable journey into the heart and spirit of the samurai, and for showing me care, kindness, and love when I needed it most. Five stars without hesitation.

- Went for a bucks party, and this was hands down our best guided experience we had in Japan. Our hosts both took great care of us, and taught us so much about Kendo. We left there with big smiles on our faces. It’s a lot of laughs, a lot of fun, and a great chance to hit your mates with some sticks! 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

Amazing experience- 5 stars! - Toshi and Kumiko were amazing Kendo instructors. They were warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. We were able to ask questions and really learn about the history of both Samurai and Kendo in a relaxed environment. Our family enjoyed every minute of this wonderful experience. Our kids voted it the best experience of our 10 day Japan trip! They especially loved getting to battle each other at the end once we learned all the property techniques and manners associated with Kendo. The Japanese snacks at the end were a big hit as well! If you want a unique experience where you are learning about the culture while experiencing it, this adventure is for you. You will enjoy every minute!

A GREAT experience — something EVERYONE can enjoy - This was one of the best experiences of my time in Japan. You’ll have a hard time finding a team that is more welcoming than Toshi and Kumiko. From their overview of Kendo and a bit of history about the samurai, through their descriptions of the different weapons and the equipment, and into the training itself, they showcase their (in Toshi’s case great!) skill and passion for what they do. And, more than that, they’re good teachers - patient, funny, and kind. You don’t need to be a samurai aficionado or a martial arts expert (I’m neither!) to enjoy the time and learn a new set of skills. Plus, it’s a good workout and great fun — sign up and experience it yourself!
