Osaka Tenmangu is a revered Shinto shrine situated in Tenjinbashi, Kita-ku, Osaka City. It is also known by several names, including Tenma Tenjin, Naniwa Sugamo, and Nakajima Tenmangu. Locals fondly refer to it as “Tenma no Tenjin-san.” The Tenjin Festival, celebrated annually from July 24th to 25th, is recognized as one of Japan’s three major festivals and one of Osaka’s top three summer festivals.

Osaka Castle boasts a rich history, originating from the Osaka Honganji Temple (Ishiyama Honganji) during the Warring States period. It witnessed the Ishiyama Battle against Oda Nobunaga, was constructed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, fell during the Siege of Osaka, was reconstructed by the Tokugawa shogunate, suffered destruction by fire during the Meiji Restoration, and underwent post-war park development. It remains deeply intertwined with Japanese history to this day. The stone walls, moats, Otemon Gate, Tamon Yagura, Sengan Yagura, and other historical structures visible today date from the Tokugawa period onwards. The area is designated as a Special Historic Site by the national government, with most ancient buildings recognized as Important Cultural Properties.

After that, we will visit one of the oldest temple to see the beautiful five story pagoda. Finally we are heading to the beautiful Osaka Castle, and cycle around its premises. Osaka Castle is located in the middle of a very large park known as Osaka Castle Park. It’s approximately 105 hectares big!!
