- Altindere Vadisi National Park - Our first stop will be the Sumela Monastery, which is located within the Altindere National Park, and it will take approximately an enjoyable one-hour journey to reach there. We will reach the monastery by walking along the 300-meter-long forest path, which can be reached by shared taxis within the National Park….

We will reach the monastery by walking along the 300-meter-long forest path, which can be reached by shared taxis within the National Park. Before arriving at the monastery, you can visit St. Barbara Chapel, where you can see the magnificent view of the Sumela Monastery.
- Sumela Monastery - When we arrive at the Sumela Monastery, you will be greeted by the historic aqueducts, stone stairs, and social area created for visitors. Before entering the monastery, you can enjoy a few minutes of the surrounding nature and scenery.
As soon as you pass the entrance gate, which is reached by stone stairs, the monastery complex will be in front of your eyes with all its beauty. At the end of your visit to the monastery, which includes the main rock church, chapels, student rooms, library, guesthouse, holy spring, and many more sections, we will meet with the group leader and return by the same path.
- Zigana - On our return journey, we will first reach our tour vehicle through the forest path and then the national park service, and continue our journey to visit the Zigana Pass. Zigana, one of the most important passes of the historic Silk Road, is a place where many famous travelers, including Marco Polo, have traveled. After seeing the pass at an altitude of 2050 meters above sea level, we will move to Hamsikoy.
- Hamsikoy - We will take a lunch break in Hamsikoy, which is famous for its natural beauty and rice pudding. After visiting Sumela, Zigana, and Hamsikoy, our tour will end in Trabzon, and we will depart, hoping to see you again on our next tour.

- Trabzon is a very peaceful, green and beautiful place. People are so nice and friendly, even though we didn’t know the language they all made an effort to communicate when you ask a question. It’s so easy to travel around also. Food is to die for. We went only 3 nights so had the chance to visit Uzungol and Sümela Monastery. Both places were well worth visit. The fresh air and the scenery is outstanding. 100% recommended. ❤️

Great tour with excellent guiding! - This was a fantastic tour!
Our guide Taner is an excellent communicator and very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the region (as well as just a super kind and genuine person). He communicated with me prior to the tour to make sure I had all the information I needed. You can tell he really cares about the guest experience. Our student guide Marhamah was also really awesome - she's going to have a lot of success in her career for sure. The mini bus driver was professional and skilled. Thank you all for a great day!
The monastery was stunning and even the drive itself was breathtaking. It was foggy and rainy when we reached Zigana pass and Hamsiköy, but it was still beautiful. I think the fog added to the atmosphere. The place we stopped to eat a late lunch was delicious!
I would book another excursion with Zenofon Tours without hesitation - and you should too!

Must do tour if you are anywhere near Trabzon - Stunning scenery balanced with history and fun local discussions. Our guide was fantastic adding local color and willingness to answer any questions. Highly recommend this tour if you like beautiful mountain scenery and history. Our tour vehicle was also very comfortable with an excellent local driver.

Wonderful Experience - I had a wonderful experience on our tour to Sumela Monastery! Our guide, Iram, was absolutely amazing—informative, friendly, and incredibly hospitable. She shared so much interesting history and made the tour engaging and memorable. Our driver, Hasan, was also very kind and drove carefully throughout the journey, making us feel safe and comfortable. The whole experience was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. Highly recommend this tour and the team behind it!

Great tour! Highly recommended! - We spent a great day! Taner is excellent guide and very smoothly guide us through the beauty of Trabzon region. Sumela monastery is breathtaking, must visit! Zigana mountain with a stoning view and the Karaca cave was a bonus :) Special thanks to Ismail the driver!

Loved this tour, glad I booked it!! - Great tour, value, and guide - thanks to Mr. Taner who was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable with the history. I believe there was 7 or 8 booked on this tour (?). which was the ideal size. I suffered from jet lag as I arrived on the 28th into Istanbul from Los Angeles, yet still I was alert for the tour and it all was fascinating and just as described. The lunch I ordered in Hamsikoy was very good! and the village very quiet and original, in a beautiful most scenic area. Very good driver!! This company, Zenofon Tours, was very communicative through Whatsapp and the starting point was only about a 5 minute walk from my hotel. (Note here... TAdv seemed to not work with communications in April, so I rebooked my tour on booking .com). Excellent driver, too! Highly recommend!!
