Perched atop a dramatic cliff, it offers stunning vistas of the volcano.
- Imerovigli - Since Byzantine times, Imerovigli has been one of Santorini’s most remarkable villages, situated at the highest point of the caldera. The early settlement of Skaros was established in 1207 by the Venetian James Varotsi, who received Santorini after the Crusaders captured Constantinople in 1204. The modern village overlooks an impressive volcano, approximately 300 meters above sea level, and is located about 2 km northwest of Fira on the road to Oia. Besides the paved road, a path connects the village to Santorini’s capital, offering endless views of the unique volcanic landscape.
- Monastery of Profitis Ilias - Ascend to the monastery of Prophet Elijah and enjoy the most breathtaking view from the island’s highest point. From here, you can admire stunning views of the Aegean coast. The mountain’s name, Profitis Ilias (Prophet Elijah), is derived from the monastery at its summit, built in 1711. In this serene and beautiful setting, you can also sample wine and local products made by the monks residing in the monastery.
- Megalochori - Traditional Village - Continue your exploration by strolling through the narrow paths of the traditional village of Megalochori. This settlement features hundreds of small white houses with exquisite architecture, tiny alleys, bell towers, and beautiful blue-domed churches. In this picturesque and less touristy environment, you can immerse yourself in the local culture and visit underground cave houses.
- Red Beach - Red Beach is a remarkable and vibrant beach. Its name aptly describes the scene visitors encounter upon arrival. Towering red rocks in the background and reddish sand with black pebbles along the coast create a unique landscape, reflecting the island’s volcanic activity. The best view of the beach is from the top of the cliff, offering a stunning photo opportunity.
- Akrotiri Archaeological Site - Explore the Akrotiri ruins independently and uncover Santorini’s Minoan era. The Akrotiri Archaeological Site is housed in a large, bright, and spacious building. The city was covered by an ash layer up to 40 meters thick in some areas, requiring extensive excavation to reach the original street level. A path leads through some reconstructed houses, where you can observe details like the original Minoan toilet and a stone bath.
- Emporio - Visit Emporio, the largest and most populated village in Santorini.
- Perissa Black Sand Beach - Head to the southern part of Santorini and unwind on the black sands of Perissa-Perivolos, featuring stunning seaside restaurants and crystal-clear waters. In Perivolos, enjoy free time to stroll and take photos on the volcanic black beach, swim in the Aegean Sea, and, if desired, dine at a seaside Greek restaurant.
- Estate Argyros - Optional wine tasting at Argyros estate. Select four wines accompanied by local appetizers. The beautiful and modern Argyros winery estate is located on the outskirts of Episkopi-Gonia, about 5.5 km southeast of Fira. Argyros’ spacious tasting room with ocean views is at the heart of their grape estate. As with most Santorini wineries, the primary grape variety produced and used here is the white Assyrtiko grape, although Argyros also crafts a delightful Aydani wine, and their ruby-red Mavrotragano received 93/100 Parker points in Wine Advocate.
