Beautiful Lake Ohrid - I took a full day tour from Skopje to Lake Ohrid. I was picked up at 8:00 AM from my hotel in a private car. I had Christian as a driver and he was great. It took us about 3 hours to reach Ohrid, on our way we stoped in a local bakery to try a speciality fried bread which was delicious. Christian spoke good english and was very careful driver.
Once we reach Lake Ohrid, my guide Ivana was waiting for us. We started the tour immediately, and our first stop was the print shop which make its own paper and used the old Gutenberg printer. After that we walked to the old town stopped at the Greco-Roman amphitheatre, then to the beautiful Byzantine Church of Virgin Mary with its incredible Frescos, then to the Ohrid castle with the its views of the beautiful lake , from the castle we walked down to Gem Church of St. John which is built of a rock cliff overlooking the lake.
Ivan also arranged for me a private tour on the lake on a catamaran boat (paid separately, extra) which give you a view of the old town from the lake. After the tour I went for lunch at a local restaurant recommend by Ivana which is away from the crowded area and is on the water and their speciality is the tourt fish from the lake and the river.
After lunch I had a stroll on the pedestrian area of the old town for sometime, and then connected again with my driver Christian for the drive back to Skopje which we reached it around 6:30 PM.
Many thanks to my wonderful guide Ivana who was so proud of her town and was such an excellent guide and a companion for the three hours we were together. Also thanks for my driver Christian.

Beautiful day in a picturesque town - We visited Ohrid on New Year’s Eve so the town was busy and full of atmosphere. The sun was shining all day and we got amazing photos of the lake and town. Our driver Miki stopped off halfway through the drive to give us Mekitsa with some amazing cheese. Our guide in Ohrid was Filip, who knew the local area extremely well and took some great photos for us. Would highlight recommend this trip!

Recommend! - Really enjoyed our time in Ohrid. It's beautiful and worth the trip from Skopje. The guide was great and very knowledgeable. Would recommend going when it isn't too hot as the tour can be brutal otherwise!

Day Trip from Skopje to Ohrid by Private Transport - This day trip was a great way to see another part of North Macedonia. The transport was comfortable & the driver was safe & considerate. The guide in Ohrid city (Ivana) was exceptional. She spoke English very well & took me to all the spots I wanted to visit & was happy to tailor the visit to my wishes. She was very knowledgeable, informative & engaging. I would thoroughly recommend a trip to Ohrid. There are other interesting sites around the lake so I would recommend staying overnight & doing more on a second day.

Highly recommend - Professional set-up with great communication. Our driver Miki was great, answered questions and played music for the roughly three hour drive. He stopped and provided us with a local snack on the way. Ohrid was incredibly beautiful. The local guide Martina took us around to several churches, the fort at the top of the hill, and a boat ride on the lake. We then had two hours of free time, which we used to go swimming, before meeting up with Miki and heading back to Skopje. Highly recommend!

Unique - We have never had such a perfect and personal tour! Our generous tour guide, Zlatko, was completely accommodating to our needs. He shone with his in-depth knowledge and was able to tell us many interesting facts about Ohrid and the lake. Ohrid is a beautiful city with many historic buildings. We were even able to take a short boat trip (about 10 minutes) and enjoy the view of the city from the lake. Lunch in the restaurant right on the lake, which Zlatko recommended to us, was delicious. We were even able to enjoy this wonderful place for an extra hour after he asked us if we had any other plans for the evening. The tour was worth every euro and we can recommend it without reservation!

Excellent way to spend a sunny day - Despite a long drive from Skopje to Ohrid, this trip is definitely worth the hours spent driving. The road through the mountain provides some spectacular views and our driver, Miki, was extremely knowledgeable about the region, filling us in about the history and culture which made the almost 3-hour car ride feel much shorter. He was also incredibly kind, providing us with water and Herba mints as part of the experience. We also stopped for coffee at the half-way point at the top of the mountains.
In Ohrid, we met our tour guide Martina. Since it was a private tour, she was able to tailor the trip to better meet our specific interests and did a great job of keeping up with our speedy meander around an incredibly picturesque city. While you don't have to go into all the churches/sites on the tour, just be prepared for additional entrance fees at some of the churches and at the fortress where you will need to pay in cash (cheaper in denar). Also be sure to go in good shoes as the trek up to the fortress might otherwise be a little difficult.
We opted not to take the boat ride (quite expensive for the time on the water) and weren't disappointed in our choice to walk back to the city center along the lake shore.
We opted for 90 minutes of free time but this was barely long enough for lunch. On sunny days, the lake-side restaurants are packed and service was slow so make sure you have enough time for lunch and self-exploration of the city. I wish we'd taken a bit more time for ourselves here as lunch felt a little rushed and we didn't have any time to stroll down the main market street before heading back to Skopje.
