Teotitlán del Valle - Located 30 kilometers from Oaxaca City, Teotitlán del Valle means “place of the gods” in Nahuatl. It is renowned for the quality and beauty of its woolen textiles, including rugs, jackets, bags, sarapes, tapestries, runners, carpets, curtains, and dresses. These are crafted on large wooden looms and adorned with natural dyes, featuring designs ranging from traditional Zapotec and Mixtec motifs to reproductions of contemporary art.
The textile production is entirely handmade, starting with washing the wool in the river, carding, spinning the thread, using natural dyes from insects and plants, and finishing on pedal looms. -
