Great experience, good time, definitely recommend. - Patient, considerate, and pleasant; best way I can think to describe the two guys that helped our group. A short walk from the shop to the beach, store has anything you need you didn't bring with you. Locker available, rent a lock or bring one and keep your stuff there, unless you have someone staying on the beach to watch it. We had 8 students and 2 instructors, so a 4:1 ratio, and they talked everyone through a couple runs each at least. Well, everyone but my wife and one other person who both said "no thanks" once we got out there, haha. Definitely need to rethink my gym routine yo, this sport takes some serious shoulder muscle endurance. Instructors did everything they could to keep us moving and hitting as much of the surf as possible to get some tries in. Small waves, but steady supply, good choice of spots to teach us newbies. Honestly I didn't make it up to my feet until the very last try while my kiddo made it on his first. I should ground him, knock him down a peg, lol. How dare he make the old man look bad. Great experience, good time, definitely recommend. Only downside is the kid wants to keep learning here at home in NYC so I guess he has a new hobby to pay for!

1. Surf lesson at Waikīkī Beach - Just incredible! With the clear instructions of the surf instructor, my son (22) and I (54) actually managed to ride a few waves, even though it was the 1. Mal was and the sea pretty wild!

Sibs first time out! - The surf lessons were so fun. It was our first time out and we actually stood up! They could not have been nicer or more supportive.

We surfed! - Nick did a fantastic job teaching us and we caught our very first waves. The booking process was easy, Nick was awesome and we had a blast!

Surfing Lessons Waikiki - This was my first surfing lesson. Paul was an absolutely great teacher. He adjusted the instruction to level of my ability, allowing me to progress to semi-standing on the surf board at conclusion of first lesson. Not only was Paul an excellent instructor, he was also a fine ambassador for Oahu and surfing culture in general. If you are up for surfing lessons and willing to take your chances on the vagaries of catching a wave, then you should definitely add Big Wave Dave Surf Co to your "must-do activities" list for your next trip to Honolulu.

Solid Lesson - This was just right for my 14 year old son. He has surfed before up in ME, but it had been a couple of years since he was last on a board. Quick lesson on the sand and then he was out in the water. Not sure if the beach where they went (front of Sheraton) is always this calm, and to catch any waves, they were out a couple of hundred yards …. So photographing from the beach was not ideal. My son really liked Lee and felt comfortable with him. I felt comfortable sending my son out with him. They encouraged people to buy reef shoes….no rentals, although they do rent rashers. In any case, it is an additional $25. Worth it? Not really sure, but certainly no complaints about foot abrasions from my son, so I guess so 😀. I did notice in the reviews that people complained about the number in a group lesson. If this is one of your first times, I recommend either a private or semi private with no more than three total. You will get way more out of that lesson than in a few group lessons.

Fun lessons - We had a great experience with the instructors. They were super fun and attentive. But we were in a pretty big group of 8 people when we had purchased semi-private lessons. It turned out to be OK.

What a rip off experience - Total rip off. They were trying to sell the solo learning package at 179 for 2 people with one instructor. On top of it, they wanted to charge money for surf gear and water sport shoes. When we challenged them as other places cover, they said that we do not need it as the surfing will be on sand beach and not the reef ones. However, during the instructions, the coach mentioned that water shoes are advisable as the surfing will be reef area. If anyone is looking for surfing lessons, we highly recommend Ohana Surf project. They were much better managed, organized, covered all the necessary gears with in the package and were cheaper also. THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF!!!!
