Highlights
  • Tantalus Lookout Puu Ualakaa State Park - Visit the renowned Tantalus Lookout at Puu Ualakaa State Park, standing 1,049 feet high. Here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Honolulu, a forested area on a cinder cone near downtown Honolulu. The lookout offers a sweeping vista of southern Oahu, from Diamond Head to Pearl Harbor, including Manoa Valley.
  • Amelia Earhart’s Marker - Amelia Earhart Lookout is a picturesque spot near Diamond Head State Monument, overlooking the clear blue waters where Amelia Earhart made history as the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to North America. In 1934, she flew solo from Wheeler AFB on O’ahu to Oakland, California, completing the journey in 18 hours.
  • Kahala - Often referred to as the Beverly Hills of Oahu, the eastern Honolulu neighborhood of Kahala is known for its affluent residents, including billionaires, celebrities, and business moguls from around the world. Enjoy the Kahala resort, which boasts a rich history and has become a legendary gathering place for Honolulu’s local society, despite its reputation for attracting the rich and famous.
  • Koko Marina Center - At Koko Marina Center, you’ll find a variety of local restaurants, the famous Leonard’s malasadas truck, Kokonut shave ice, Kona brewery, specialty gift shops, and entertainment options.
  • Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve - Stop by Hanauma Bay, a stunning Nature Preserve located on the east side of Oahu. Formed within a volcanic cone, this pristine marine ecosystem offers an amazing place to snorkel (advance reservation required) and explore diverse wildlife. The bay is protected by vertical crater walls and a peripheral reef, keeping the water calm and ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and observing marine life. Visitors can see hundreds of species of fish, coral, and other aquatic creatures. *Closed on Monday & Tuesday.
  • Halona Blowhole - The Hālona Blowhole is one of Hawaii’s natural wonders, formed thousands of years ago by molten lava tubes from volcanic eruptions. The lookout point offers absolutely stunning views.
  • Sandy Beach Park - Sandy Beach, located on the South Shore of Oʻahu, is known for its excellent bodyboarding and bodysurfing opportunities due to the shore break that occurs close to the shore. Local residents call it Fractured Beach because it has more injuries per year than any other beach in Hawaii.
  • Waimanalo Beach - Drive through “God’s Country” to Waimanalo Bay Beach Park & Recreation Area, a rarely visited spot by tourists. This Oahu beach will leave you in awe with its turquoise blue waters and miles of soft white sand.
  • Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout - Perched over a thousand feet above the Oahu coastline, the stone terrace overlooks Kaneohe and Kailua, Mokolii (Chinaman’s Hat), and the University of Hawaii’s marine biology research center, Coconut Island. Other landmarks include Hawaii Pacific University’s Windward campus, Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, and the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden. The Pali Lookout is historically significant as the site of the Battle of Nuuanu in 1795, where King Kamehameha united Oahu under his rule.
  • Green World Coffee Farms - A small farm on Oahu’s North Shore, Green World Coffee Farm spans 7 acres with over 3,000 arabica coffee trees. Established in 2013 by Howard Green, the farm offers a full espresso bar menu and a retail section with coffee bags and local merchandise.
  • Dole Plantation - Founded in 1901, the historic Dole pineapple plantation opened to the public in 1989 as Hawaii’s “Pineapple Experience.” Today, it is one of Oahu’s most popular attractions. Visitors must try the pineapple ice cream and other products, and explore the plantation country store offering a variety of Dole Plantation gifts, local favorites, and refreshments, including the world-famous Dole Whip.
  • Haleiwa Historic Town - Located in the middle of Oahu’s North Shore, Haleiwa is a charming surf town with restaurants, surf shops, art galleries, and souvenir shops. It’s a great place to find refreshment after exploring the South Shore. Enjoy the incredible North Shore beaches, and then stroll around for some window shopping.
  • Shark’s Cove - One of the most famous snorkeling and diving spots on the North Shore, Shark’s Cove is rated by Scuba Diving Magazine as one of the “Top Twelve Shore Dives in the World.” This small rocky bay is part of Pupukea Beach Park and features blue water and abundant sea life, with large smooth boulders and coral heads forming small caves and ledges.
  • Banzai Pipeline - Known for its barreling waves, Banzai Pipeline is one of the most famous surf spots on the North Shore. During winter, massive swells break on shallow reefs, making it a dangerous spot for only the best surfers. The pipeline is notorious for its huge waves that break in shallow water above a sharp reef, forming large, hollow curls of water that surfers can ride.
  • Kualoa Ranch - Visit this incredible private nature reserve, a popular filming location for Hollywood movies and TV shows. Kualoa Ranch is a 4,000-acre working cattle ranch and one of Oahu’s Historic Places, located at the base of the Koolau mountains facing Kaneohe Bay.
  • Tropical Farms (The Macadamia Nut Farm Outlet) - Tropical Farms began as a roadside operation in 1987. This charming shop offers free coffee and macadamia nut samples, and visitors can experience cracking their own macadamia nut from a tree behind the shop.

Awesome and then some! - This was a great tour for the slightly higher level WWII enthusiast. We even got a tour of Honolulu sites and some facts about the wildlife as well. There is always more to see, but this covered the major items. Thanks, Robert!

Not much time at Pearl Harbor - We were able to get out to the memorial very quickly after arriving to Pearl Harbor. We didn’t have much time after that to look around at the other things there though (about 30 minutes). Our driver, Robert, was very nice and helpful, but difficult to hear when he was talking on the shuttle. They don’t use microphones, so if you are sitting toward the back it’s hard to hear.
