- Diamond Head State Monument - Amelia Earhart Lookout is a stunning vantage point near Diamond Head State Monument, offering views of the clear blue waters where Amelia Earhart made history as the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to North America. This lookout provides excellent photo opportunities of Oahu’s southeastern coastline, with notable sights extending to Hanauma Bay and even Maui on clear days.
- Halona Blowhole - This natural marvel on Oahu was created by volcanic activity thousands of years ago. Today, Halona Blowhole occasionally shoots seawater up to 30 feet into the air as waves rush through underwater lava tubes. The viewing area offers a spectacular view of Halona Cove, a picturesque beach featured in numerous movies and music videos. Winter visitors might also spot whales in the nearby waters.
- Sandy Beach Park - Known for its powerful shore breaks and fine sand that gets everywhere, Sandy Beach is a serene and beautiful stretch of sand just beyond the popular Halona Blowhole. This isolated Oahu beach offers a stunning scene as you drive along the lava rock cliffs of Koko Head Crater.
- Makapu’u Point - This spot offers breathtaking coastal views and sights of offshore islands. Gazing into the azure waters of the bay, you can see Oahu’s famous Manana Island, also known as Rabbit Island due to its rabbit-like shape.
- Byodo-In Temple - Built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants arriving in Hawai’i in 1868, Oahu’s Byodo-In Temple is also known as Phoenix Hall in Japan. The name comes either from the building’s bird-like shape or the Phoenix statue atop the roof. Walking around the back reveals the temple’s T-shaped configuration, with a pond flowing underneath.
Constructed over three years and dedicated in June 1968 with a traditional Buddhist ceremony, the temple has since become one of Oahu’s top ten visitor attractions, drawing over 300,000 visitors annually.
Inside, the temple houses a Lotus Buddha and brass artwork on the ceiling. Beyond the impressive structure and Buddha, the surrounding gardens and pond offer their own beauty.
- Tanaka Kahuku Shrimp - –LUNCH BREAK– We pause for lunch at a local restaurant where you can choose from the famous North Shore Garlic Shrimp plate or other local delicacies. Non-shellfish and vegetarian options are available. Please bring cash for lunch.
- Waimea Arboretum and Botanical Garden - Next, we visit Waimea Valley and Waterfall, an enchanting location featuring over 5,000 species of tropical flowering plants, ancient archaeological sites, and one of the island’s most scenic waterfalls.
- Dole Plantation - A historic pineapple plantation known for pineapple magnets, t-shirts, keychains, and most importantly, pineapple ice cream, also known as Dole Whip!
- Laniakea Beach - TURTLE BEACH - Located on Oahu’s North Shore, Laniakea Beach is so well-known for Hawaiian green sea turtle sightings that locals call it “Turtle Beach.” It’s a fantastic spot to watch turtles come ashore to sunbathe, making it one of Hawaii’s most reliable turtle-watching locations.
- Oahu’s North Shore - SUNSET BEACH - This legendary big-wave surfing spot hosts towering waves and surfing contests from November to April. Unlike the crowded beaches of Waikiki, Sunset Beach on the North Shore offers tranquility and epitomizes a beautiful Hawaiian beach. However, don’t be fooled by the calm summer months; winter swells can reach 30 to 40 feet, visible from the safety of the shore.
