- Ka’ena Point State Park - The Ka’ena Point Mokulei’a section is a stunningly remote area where the island’s North and West shores converge. It is believed to be the place where the souls of departed Hawaiian Kupuna (ancestors) leap into the afterlife. In addition to a vast, sandy beach, there are tide pools and rocky coves that are home to native fish species. This spot is ideal for observing native wildlife such as Hawaiian monk seals, Albatross, and humpback whales from the shore if you’re lucky. Ka’ena is perfect for hiking or picnicking.
- Old Waialua Sugar Mill - The Waialua Sugar Mill is a historic sugar plantation now housing shops that showcase local art, coffee, authentic souvenirs, and one of the coolest surf shops on the island.
- Haleiwa - Known as the heart of the surfing world, Haleiwa is a quintessential Hawaiian town. The town center boasts fantastic shopping, arts, and local cuisine with an old-world charm. With garlic-shrimp trucks, Polynesian treasures, surf shops, and more, it’s a great stop before heading to the famous North Shore surf.
- Puaʻena Point Beach Park - Unwind at Pua’ena Point Beach Park and take in the views of Haleiwa Harbor and the Waianae Mountain Range. From here, you can see Mount Ka’ala, the island’s tallest peak. Sea turtles (Honu) often rest on the beach, and the waters are great for snorkeling on calm days.
- Shark’s Cove - Shark’s Cove is a small, rocky bay teeming with colorful fish and turtles. Visitors can snorkel or dive in the clear waters to observe marine life or cool off in a large tidal pool.
- Sunset Beach Park - Sunset Beach is famous for the Banzai Pipeline. Every winter, the world’s best surfers gather here for World Surf League events. On the mountain side (Mauka side), the Ehukai Pillbox hike offers scenic views of the beaches and surf below, as well as a chance to visit WWII-era bunkers.
- Waimea Bay - Waimea Bay hosts the renowned “Eddie” big-wave surf competition, where waves can reach up to 40 feet in the winter. It’s also known for “jump rock,” where locals and tourists cliff dive into the Pacific Ocean during the summer. This stunning sandy beach is a must-see on Oahu’s North Shore.
- Kahuku - The Kahuku roadside food court offers a variety of local food trucks. Mike’s Huli Chicken, Romy’s, and Ry’s Poke Shack are famous spots located here.
