Additional Information

Our mālama experience offers a unique and enriching method to appreciate Oʻahu’s splendor. Our distinctiveness lies in our dedication to culturally considerate tourism.

Instead of merely viewing picturesque landscapes and cultural landmarks, our intimate group tours involve visitors in proactive restoration efforts that preserve the very locations we explore. Engaging in light conservation tasks like eradicating invasive vegetation, sowing indigenous plants, and reconstructing stone barriers, guests create a tangible bond with the terrain and garner a profound comprehension of Hawaiian customs.

Crucially, the proceeds gathered from our tours directly assist local nonprofit collaborators striving to rejuvenate Hawaiian culture and recuperate sacred locations. As such, by selecting our mālama experience, you rest assured that your involvement is making a significant contribution to the community and bolstering the sustained conservation of Hawaii’s natural and cultural legacy for future generations.

Best cultural experience on island - My two kids (5 and 6) and I had an incredible and super fun time with Ho’omau tour company on their Malama experience. From learning language to getting our feet muddy in the kalo patches, this experience was by far the most memorable and cultural thing we did. Strongly recommend Evan with Ho’omau when you visit Oahu. He was a warm and friendly local guy with so much knowledge of his island.

Tours! - Born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. I have never been to a Lo’i patch and shocked Evan, our tour guide. He explained and the Kumu at the Lo’i also explained what we will be doing at the Lo’i. I learned how to pick the taro leaves , clean it, separate the taro from leaf so it can be replanted for the next batch . I also helped fish out fresh water craw fish. I told out tour guide that I felt out Hawaiian ancestors there watching me do what they did years ago and it is a blessed feeling to be amongst our ancestors. I highly recommend this tour. I week before I also went on the tour of Iolani palace. Evan was very informative with the history of Iolani palace, the meaning of each gate, Evan’s knowledge of the palace transports you back to visualize our Queen and those before her walking on the grounds. Seeing traders at the specific gates looking to trade their goods or walking the paths of our ancestors. Highly recommend these tours to find out all about Hawaii, not just Waikiki and see how our ancestors ruled, lived and survived. Mahalo Evan for the great tours!! Can’t wait for the next one.

Amazing experience - We booked a 2 day experience. The first day we did the island circle tour exploring and learning about the island. The second day we got to experience a more intimate and personal tour of the rich history of the culture and taro patches. At every point of are 2 day tour we got to learn about Hawaiian culture and history for a truly special experience for the entire family. We top off our tour with a breathtaking proposal for my engagement and a unique opportunity to blend 2 families together with memories that will never be forgotten.

My Experience at the Lo’i Kalo - It was so fun and enjoyable, but also very informative and I left knowing more about it than when I first arrived. I learned the importance of the agriculture and how crucial it was that it be taken care of. It was a great time and I would love to go back soon!
