To this day, the enormous structures located in the southeast sector of Nuremberg, remnants of the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds, continue to awe visitors. They remain as tangible evidence of the grandiose delusions of the National Socialist regime.
Adolf Dassler, also known as ‘Adi’, initiated his own sports shoe production in his mother’s kitchen in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, following his return from World War I, in the year 1927.
In the course of the 1936 Summer Olympics, Adi Dassler journeyed from Bavaria to the Olympic Village intending to persuade African-American runner Jesse Owens to sport his shoes. Owens was the inaugural African American athlete to obtain sponsorship from the Dassler brothers. Owens’ accolade of four gold medals solidified the status of Dassler shoes among the most renowned athletes globally, sparking the curiosity of numerous national team coaches.
