Unveiling the Hidden Paradise of Las Caletas: A Family Adventure
When I heard about the tropical paradise of Las Caletas, I knew it was a must-visit for our family trip to Nuevo Vallarta. Join me as I recount our unforgettable day filled with adventure, stunning views, and family bonding.
Setting Sail to Paradise
Our family adventure to Las Caletas began with an early morning departure from Nuevo Vallarta. As a seasoned traveler, I knew the importance of starting the day with a hearty breakfast, but with the resort’s restaurants closed, we grabbed some snacks at the waiting area. Coffee was free, which was a lifesaver for this mom who needed her caffeine fix before embarking on a day full of excitement.
The boat ride itself was a treat, offering stunning views of the Cathedral Puerto Vallarta and some picturesque rock islands. I made sure to capture these moments on camera, as the scenic beauty was simply breathtaking. My husband and I chose to sit on the starboard side to avoid the sun, a decision that saved us from further sunburn. The kids, however, were too excited to care about sun exposure, eagerly anticipating the adventures that awaited them.
Adventures Await at Las Caletas
Upon arrival at Las Caletas, we were greeted by the lush greenery and the sound of macaws flying overhead. The island was a paradise, thoughtfully designed to offer a variety of activities without feeling crowded. Our first stop was the Teen Adventure Zone, where my boys, aged 15 and 13, couldn’t wait to try the Flow Rider. Although they didn’t quite master surfing, the joy of trying was evident on their faces.
The zip line into the water was a hit, providing a thrilling experience that left us all laughing and cheering. We decided to skip the water slide, as it seemed a bit too slow and claustrophobic for our taste. Instead, we spent time exploring the beach, where paddle boards and intertubes were readily available. My boys were thrilled to ride the waves, a rare treat for them as Seattle’s waters are much calmer.
A Feast for the Senses
By lunchtime, we were famished. The fresh tortillas and delicious spread were a welcome sight, and we were among the first to enjoy the meal. The thoughtful layout of the beach, with its floats and hammocks, allowed us to relax and soak in the beauty of our surroundings. I even brought my own goggles and was amazed by the vibrant marine life visible from the shore.
Despite a minor hiccup with the eclipse schedule, which led to some confusion about activity availability, our day at Las Caletas was nothing short of magical. The island’s charm, from its bamboo forest to the incense-scented bathrooms, made it a memorable experience for our family. We left with hearts full of joy and a camera full of memories, eager to return for another day in paradise.
For those planning a visit, I highly recommend bringing snacks to keep the energy up, especially if you’re traveling with hungry teens. And while the photo package is tempting, capturing your own moments can be just as rewarding. Las Caletas is a hidden gem that offers something for everyone, making it a must-visit for families seeking adventure and relaxation.
