According to locals, the name Tiu Kelep comes from the Sasak language, where “Tiu” means pool and “Kelep” means fly. The name Sendang Gile originates from a legend about a prince who was chased by a mad lion. He ran into the woods and hid behind the waterfall, which was then named Sendang Gile.

Lombok’s distinctive Waktu Telu religion is said to have originated from this historic mosque site.
