Highlights
  • D-Day Beaches (Plages du Debarquement de la Bataille de Normandie) - Your private tour guide will take your private group up for a full day of World War II history, with an emphasis on the American soldiers who fought to protect the Allies and their people.
You will visit important sites such as the ones that follow.
  • Pointe du Hoc - Start your visit with your private guide by Pointe du Hoc, where American troops landed on D-Day. This is one of the most significant World War II sites, and unlike many other Normandy landmarks, Pointe du Hoc is largely untouched, making this an emotional and powerful place to begin the private tour.

Your expert guide will take you through the history and significance of what happened here on June 6, 1944, as American troops scaled the cliffs (the highest point in the region) to take back control from German troops who had built 6 casemates to house a battery of 155 mm guns.

Stand before this site, situated Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, and reflect on the heroic struggle of the American Second Ranger Battalion under the command of Lt. Col. James E. Rudder. Ultimately, many American soldiers sacrificed their lives in order to protect fellow troops from German counterattacks.

  • Omaha Beach - Leaving Pointe duc Hoc, continue on a drive for a visit to Omaha Beach, the site of one of the most significant events of World War II.

Stand on the sands where 2,400 American soldiers lost their lives on D-Day in an effort to secure a beachhead spanning some 5 miles between Port en Bessin and the Vire River, linking up with the British landings at Gold Beach and the Americans at Utah Beach.

Your guide will take you through this history of Omaha Beach before leaving you with free time to reflect and pay your respects to those who fought against the German 352nd Infantry Division.

When you are ready, a provided lunch will be served before heading to the American Cemetery.

  • Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer - After lunch your journey continues with an extensive visit to the 172.5-acre American Cemetery of Colleville, the resting place of some 9,387 military, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings.

Here, take your time visiting the graves, the Memorial, the Wall of the Missing, and the chapel.

Your visit will be followed with a stop at the beautifully designed American Interpretive Center, where you will have the opportunity to watch remarkable short films and documentaries relating the events of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy operations.

  • Arromanches-les-Bains - Leaving the American Cemetery, you’ll sit back and relax on a drive to the Arromanches with its vestiges of the artificial harbor (Mulberry Bridge), Longues-sur-Mer and the German artillery battery, which gave the allies a pounding on the morning of June 6.

It is actually the only coastal battery to have kept its guns, giving an impressive picture of what an Atlantic wall gun emplacement was really like.

At the end of your day you will be given free time to explore the Caen Peace Memorial, a place for contemplating war in general and why it is important not to forget the legacy of the Second World War.

Wonderful day at Normandy - Our guide was wonderful! So knowledgeable of all of the details dealing with anything we asked him about. He was prompt on picking us up and was very flexible about meeting our needs. We wanted to look up family members at the American Cemetery and he made sure we had plenty of time there and weren’t rushed, as that was the main reason for our trip. Took us to a lovely local restaurant for our lunch. Over all it was a very good day!

A Day to Remember in Normandy! - Such a memorable day! We started our day with a comfortable van ride to Normandy. Our guide asked if there was anything we really wanted to see and he designed our day around our requests. He was friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable, and was very professional throughout the day. The sites were so moving to experience and our guide gave us wonderful commentary at each location. We concluded our day with a wonderful lunch and pleasant van trip back to Paris. It was a day I’ll remember always.

We were a little hesitant... - We were a little hesitant about the long drive to the coast to visit the battlefields, but our whole family agreed it was so worth it! What an amazing experience. Our guide was fantastic, sharing so much knowledge about D-Day with us. The lunch spot he picked out was top notch as well. It was a perfect day spent away from the hustle and bustle of Paris.

Great tour, knowledgeable guide! - Great tour of top Omaha Beach sites. Knowledgeable guide with good information. Highly suggest stopping at the visitors center - which provides excellent perspective and information - prior to seeing the Memorial and the American Cemetery. We only had very limited time in France and very much appreciated that this tour is round trip from Paris. When planning your day, beware that the travel time is roughly 3 hours one way.

A worthwhile visit to the Normandy Beaches and Cemetery . - Seeing where the Americans landed on Omaha Beach and the Cemetery where many were buried were very interesting . Traveling with a private tour guide (Ryan) made the trip to and from Paris very easy. His knowledge made this trip much more meaningful.

Great way to experience Normandy - Omaha Beach and American Cemetery were very sobering. Something all Americans should see. The tour guide was great in that offered information when asked but allowed me explore things on my own without inundating me with information. Was able to spend as long as needed at each stop. Never felt like I was on a schedule.

Memorable place but not the most insightful guide - Certainly an experience we will all remember. Guide picked us up on time. Did not seem as knowledgeable as we expected and seemed to rush us through. Memorable experience but not the value for the price.

Moving experience - It was incredible to see beaches, remains of the German battery and the American cemetery. A truly memorable experience that I will never forget. So moving. Since the drive from Paris was 3 hours, I would recommend spending every minute seeing the sites and bringing a picnic/snacks instead of stopping for lunch. There are not a lot of options so we went to a large family restaurant that was clean, bit the good was not great. Our guide was a great driver so the ride was nice, but his knowledge of the history, strategy and events was superficial. Most of our Viator trips included guides that were professionals - or very knowledgeable and passionate about the sites. I would definitely recommend a trip to Normandy.
