  • Zuidhavenpoort Zierikzee - At the South Harbor Gate, we share the history of this beautiful city gate from The 14th Century and the many battles it endured to keep Zierikzee safe. We will also explore the architectural tastes and styles of the past that influenced its construction.
  • Rijksmonument Noordhavenpoort - Next to the South Harbor Gate lies the North Harbor Gate. As we walk through the gate, we will witness the grandeur of the old monument and gain a clear view of the historical battles that once took place here. We will also tell the exciting story of Cristóbal Mondragón and how he and his soldiers infiltrated Zierikzee.
  • Oude Haven - The old harbor of Zierikzee seems frozen in time. The historic boats and houses give Zierikzee its unique charm.
  • Job Baster Appartement - We are delighted to tell you about this remarkable physician from Leiden who had a great love for nature. He settled in Zierikzee and is well-documented in history: Job Baster.
  • Sint Jacobshofje/vismarkt - We walk to the Sint Jacobshofje, also known as the old fish market. Here, we will share stories about the life of fishermen in the past and the widow houses surrounding the square.
  • Havenplein - At the harbor square, we will witness the old and new aspects of the city. We will admire the historic houses and visit the Beuze (also known as the guesthouse church), where we’ll share the beautiful legend of Westenschouwen.
  • Gravensteen - The Gravensteen. The name itself says it all (stone). The Gravensteen was the first stone house in Zierikzee, a beautiful building that later served as a prison. Many famous historical figures were imprisoned here, and the evidence can still be seen inside the prison. Here, we will share stories about life as a prisoner and the punishments of the past.
  • Stadhuismuseum Zierikzee - We walk past the town hall of Zierikzee, once a place of justice. Today, it houses a beautiful museum open to visitors. We discuss the courthouse, the weighing house (‘waag’), and the product that made Zierikzee prosperous in its time.
  • Nieuwe Kerk - At the New Church of Zierikzee, we can still catch a glimpse of the old church, the Sint Lievensmonstertoren church. We’re eager to share the history behind this transformation and the reasons behind its current appearance.
  • Sint-Lievensmonstertoren - The Sint Lievensmonstertoren, also known as the Dikke Toren, stands as a testament to Zierikzee’s prosperity in its prime. We delve into its foundation, remarkable height, and the story of Andries Keldermans, the architect responsible for this iconic structure.
