Nizwa Fort - Nizwa Souk - Birkat Al Mouz - Irrigation System of Al Kattmyn - Jebel Akhdar
Nizwa Fort Oman - The journey begins in Muscat, heading to Nizwa, the former capital of Oman. Visitors can explore the renowned Nizwa Fortress, now a museum that highlights the fortā€™s history and the surrounding region. As you walk through the fortress, you are treated to breathtaking views of the ancient town and nearby mountains. This remarkable fortress served as a military stronghold, successfully withstanding numerous attacks and sieges.
Nizwa Souk - Adjacent to the fortress is the expansive Nizwa Souq, a local market offering a wide array of goods, including jewelry, pottery, fish, and meats, among others.
Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - The tour continues with a drive to the base of Jebel Akhdar, to the historic village of Birkat Al Mauz.
Aflaj Irrigation Systems of Oman - Following this, the tour visits the Irrigation System of Al Kattmyn, one of the five UNESCO-listed irrigation systems.
Jebel Akhdar - The journey then ascends to Jebel Akhdar, also known as the Green Mountain, which is home to numerous fruit plantations and rose gardens. Visitors can enjoy a walk through the hills and take in the stunning valley views. Jebel Akhdar offers a wealth of experiences before the return drive to Muscat.
Dianaā€™s Viewpoint - Wadi Bani Habib - Al Suwjara Village - Back to Muscat
Jebel Akhdar - After breakfast, the tour proceeds to Dianaā€™s Viewpoint. The cliffā€™s edge here offers a famous panoramic view of the terraced farms below and has a royal connection. Diana, Princess of Wales, visited this spot during a royal tour of Oman with the future British king in 1986. The tourist office frequently receives inquiries about this location, a fact not overlooked by two nearby hotels that both offer potential viewpoints. While they may be leveraging Dianaā€™s legacy, it does not diminish the spectacular nature of the visit.
Wadi Bani Habib Hiking - Wadi Bani Habib is known less for its walnut and pomegranate orchards, which still thrive here, and more for the ruined village nestled at the valleyā€™s base. A simple walking path descends 200 steps to the valley floor, crosses the irrigation channel that nourishes the orchards, and ascends to a cluster of slowly crumbling mud buildings on the opposite side. The entire area is picturesque, though it is best visited on weekdays to avoid crowds and parking challenges.
Jebel Akhdar - The village retains its breathtaking natural beauty and rich history, spanning over 450 years, and continues to narrate its story through its carved walls and rocks, which have become integral to its historical heritage. It was abandoned more than 80 years ago due to heavy rains.
