Here, you’ll find the freshest seafood, local produce, and a special section dedicated to Niigata’s renowned rice. The area also boasts several cafes and restaurants offering ramen, sushi, and more, all within an authentic fisherman’s market setting. Visit in the morning to experience the bustling market atmosphere and don’t forget to grab some souvenirs.

  • Niigata Furumachi Machi Minato Information Center - In Niigata, the term for “geisha” is “geigi.” Furumachi is one of Japan’s most famous districts, alongside Kyoto’s Gion and Tokyo’s Shinbashi. Here, geigi perform traditional dances and engage in games with guests.

  • The Old Saito Residence - Constructed in 1918 by wealthy merchant Kijuro Saito IV as a summer villa for his family, the Old Saito Villa is now a cultural heritage site and is considered one of Niigata’s most beautiful homes and gardens. The house features 11 rooms, each with unique character and design. The gardens are designed to offer different aesthetics, providing a changing view as you move from room to room and through the seasons. The home and garden were created with a concept of unity, eliminating boundaries between indoors and outdoors to create harmony.

Wonderful Cultural Tour - Mizue “Mindy” was an amazing guide for Niigata. She carefully put together a very diverse tour that included: a panoramic view of the city, historic villa with traditional gardens, shopping at an open marketplace and a wonderful sushi lunch. Her communication and timely scheduling was unprecedented! Thank you for a wonderful day, Mindy.
