As the tour progresses towards Washington Square Park, several notable landmarks will be visited, including the Edgar Allan Poe house and the Washington Square Hotel. The park, once a potter’s field, will be explored to uncover how it became a hub for musicians, activists, and bohemians. The tour also includes a visit to the Brown Building, the site of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, a pivotal event that catalyzed the labor movement in the United States.
The journey continues up McDougal Street, which is rich with historical establishments. Participants will see Cafe Wha?, a venue where legends like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Woody Allen, Joan Rivers, and Richard Pryor launched their careers. Jones Street, famous for the cover art of ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’ album, will also be visited, along with a stop to discover where New York City’s best pizza is served.
The tour proceeds down Christopher Street to the Stonewall Inn, where participants will learn about the riot that ignited the Gay Rights Movement in America.
