• Friday Mosque (Jama Masjid) - This magnificent mosque in Old Delhi is the largest in India, with a courtyard that can accommodate 25,000 worshippers. Construction began in 1644, marking the final architectural masterpiece of Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor who also created the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort.
• Chandni Chowk - Situated in the heart of Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk is a bustling shopping district with markets brimming with spices, dried fruits, silver jewelry, and vibrant saris. The narrow lanes are filled with small shops offering essential oils, stationery, and traditional Indian sweets. • Rashtrapati Bhavan - Rashtrapati Bhavan, the residence of the President of the world’s largest democracy, symbolizes Indian democracy and its secular, plural, and inclusive traditions. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker, it stands on a 330-acre estate. The construction of this presidential palace took seventeen years, completed in 1929, using nearly seven hundred million bricks and three million cubic feet of stone. It features 2.5 kilometers of corridors and 190 acres of gardens. The main building spans 5 acres and includes 340 rooms over four floors. The renowned Mughal Gardens cover 15 acres, showcasing 159 varieties of roses, 60 types of bougainvillea, and numerous other flowers. The Estate also houses the state-of-the-art Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex (RBMC), which includes the Clock Tower, the Stables, and the Garages, highlighting past and present presidencies, regal ceremonies, and the rich flora and fauna of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The RBMC was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee on July 25, 2016.
• India Gate - At the center of New Delhi stands the 42-meter high India Gate, an “Arc-de-Triomphe”-like archway at a crossroads. Similar to its French counterpart, it honors the 70,000 Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the British Army during World War I. The memorial lists the names of over 13,516 British and Indian soldiers who perished on the Northwestern Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919.
• Humayun’s Tomb - Situated near the intersection of Mathura Road and Lodhi Road, this splendid garden tomb is the first significant example of Mughal architecture in India.
• Agrasen Ki Baoli - Leamigo - Agrasen ki Baoli, recognized as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958, is a 60-meter long and 15-meter wide historical stepwell on Hailey Road, near Connaught Place, Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, India.
• Qutub Minar - Qutub Minar is an impressive 73-meter high tower of victory, constructed in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak following the defeat of Delhi’s last Hindu kingdom. The tower features five distinct storeys, each with a projecting balcony, tapering from a 15-meter diameter at the base to just 2.5 meters at the top. The first three storeys are made of red sandstone, while the fourth and fifth are of marble and sandstone. At the base of the tower is the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the first mosque built in India. An inscription over its eastern gate provocatively states that it was constructed using materials from 27 demolished Hindu temples. A 7-meter high iron pillar stands in the mosque’s courtyard, and it is said that if you can encircle it with your hands while standing with your back to it, your wish will be granted.
