Negombo is a charming beach town located just 10km from Bandaranaike International Airport. With a welcoming local community, an intriguing old quarter, and a decent beach (though somewhat polluted), Negombo offers a pleasant experience.

Negombo - Galle

Galle - After enjoying breakfast, you will head out before midday to Sigiriya. Upon arrival in Galle, you will check into the hotel for some relaxation, followed by a visit to explore Galle city.

Galle is a city on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, renowned for Galle Fort, the fortified old city established by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. Stone seawalls, expanded by the Dutch, enclose car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences. Notable buildings include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip. Built by the Dutch starting in 1663, Galle’s core is the Fort, a walled enclave surrounded on three sides by the ocean. While tourism now plays a significant role in the local economy, this unique city remains a vibrant community.

Galle To Mirissa

Mirissa - After an early breakfast, depart from the hotel around 07:30 AM towards Mirissa for a whale-watching tour. The tour duration depends on whale sightings, typically lasting up to 4 hours. You will be provided with ample water, soft drinks, and snacks during the activity.

The southern tip of Sri Lanka is the best place to see blue whales in a short time. Mirissa and Weligama are renowned for blue whale sightings worldwide. Sperm whales, right whales, killer whales, whale sharks, turtles, and various dolphins are also spotted in this part of the island throughout the year. Whale watching season runs from November through April.

Bentota is a Sri Lankan coastal city famous for its golden beaches, located on the southern coastal tip of the Galle District in the Southern Province. The town is a popular tourist destination, especially among foreign visitors. The name originates from a mythical story dating back to the time of kings, where a demon named Bem ruled this river (tota = riverbank). Bentota is home to several world-renowned hotels and the famous Sri Lankan jeweler Aida. It also offers the ancient healing art of Ayurveda and is known for producing Toddy, an alcoholic beverage made from coconut nectar. The city’s population is estimated to be between 25,000-50,000.

Hikkaduwa - In the evening, take a walk to another famous beach, Hikkaduwa, with your local guide.

Both foreign and local tourists visit Hikkaduwa to see the famous “coral gardens.” For those who prefer to stay dry, glass-bottom boats are available, while others snorkel to explore the vibrant corals and marine life.

Bentota - Colombo - Airport

Madu Ganga Biodiversity Area - Today, enjoy your final breakfast in Sri Lanka. Drive to Colombo, stopping at the Madu River for an amazing boat ride.

Madu River is a wetland estuary covering over 900 hectares, with 770 hectares of water and 64 islands. The boat ride offers a closer look at this complex wetland ecosystem, a world heritage site protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. It is one of the last wetlands in Sri Lanka with a pristine mangrove forest. Journey past massive mangrove forests and glide under the forest tunnels’ canopy as they curve playfully towards the watercourse. If it’s later in the evening, watch fishermen in their canoes lighting lanterns on traps to catch prawns and other shellfish. It’s sure to be a memorable day on the serene waters of the unforgettable Madu River.

Colombo - After a magnificent boat ride, embark on a Colombo city tour.

Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, has a rich history as a port on ancient east-west trade routes, ruled by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. This heritage is reflected in its architecture, blending colonial buildings with high-rises and shopping malls. The imposing Colombo National Museum, dedicated to Sri Lankan history, borders the sprawling Viharamahadevi Park and its giant Buddha. Colombo, the commercial capital and largest city in Sri Lanka, once served as a crucial seaport for trade between the East and the West. Located on the country’s west coast, Colombo is a vibrant and bustling urban metropolis that offers modern conveniences alongside traditions from a bygone era, waiting to be experienced.

Katunayake - Afterward, depart for the airport, marking the end of your trip.
